OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

nancy:  Those would be the ones who did BattleStations the night before, most likely, and they were too tired to march.  These sailors may have been delayed in FIT and finally passed, and had to do BattleStations the Thurs night.

I was watching PIR from last Friday and noticed some sailors in the balcony-why are they there?

AnnaMae:  If you have car registration (or rental agreement if renting a car), proof of insurance, and the gate pass (downloaded from the RTC site), it is not hard to drive on base.  We just suggest that you stay to the left on Buckley Rd (PIR car line will be on your right...those waiting to get into RTC) and bypass RTC.  Turn around right past it near or in the train station.  Approach RTC from the opposite direction and it is an easy left turn into RTC.  No waiting in the long line!  But you can also take the shuttles...either Sarge's or the ones the hotels use (same price....$3/pp each way) if you do not want to drive.

And, yes, you can meet your sailor at the airport and wait with your sailor until plane departs.  They are bussed in the wee hours to wait for flights all day on Saturday.  Make sure to take ID so you can get the airlines gate pass and wait at the gate until departure.

Good Morning All !
