For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on October 8, 2013 at 8:20pm: Please check into Southwest Airlines for your flights, into either Midway or Milwaukee. Milwaukee is a closer drive to GL...no traffic....usually cheaper flights and car rental. There is no change fee if you have to do that, and 2 bags check for free.

Comment by diannep on October 8, 2013 at 8:19pm: DarinsMom: It can be either Midway or OHare. He won't know until right before PIR. They are about 30-40 minutes apart. Some sailors will eventually be flying from Milwaukee airport as well, we understand. Can you book your return much later in the day? Also, it is not 100 percent certain that your son will leave on the 16th....it depends on when they can get flights, which they don't do until right before PIR. If you can plan your return on Sunday, just in case your sailor leaves on Sunday rather than Saturday, that would be good. If not, try to book your return later on Saturday so you have as much time as possible with your sailor!

Comment by DWDMom on October 8, 2013 at 7:48pm: I would like to give some advice to anyone who has not booked flights yet. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT use Priceline.com. It has been a very horrible and expensive lesson. Always book your flights directly with the airline because they have the TRUE insurance. Lesson learned.
