OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Mike is going to Goose Creek near Charleston NC. That is, if the Navy doesn't change their mind! You find out pretty quick that there are no plans set in stone. As of now, he is scheduled to go there right after boot. He's hoping for an ET rating...

Mike'sMom- where is your son going? I am not really sure where Zach is going, the last time we spoke he said he was going to try to change, so I will have to wait and see this for sure. Thanks for your help.

Random question: would someone remind me what a "shark" is with regard to boot camp?

Comment by DebbiL on October 23, 2012 at 12:58pm

I am pretty sure that you can send them some AFTER they get there, and have their housing situated. I don't know if every A School is the same, but I know that one my son will be going to says that civilian clothes are "not authorized" until after the 4th week. There are other groups for the various A Schools. Since they are all different lengths of time, you should probably check them out.

For the Nuke A-School, he'll be there for about 8 - 12 months, so it will be a little like outfitting a dorm room (with Navy restrictions, of course!). I wouldn't get rid of all their "civies" until you know for sure.

I know the SR's are not allowed civilian clothes after PIR, but do they get to take some with them to A School? I didnt know whether to take some with me or would he have to buy the things he needs? Thanks for your help.

PAmom-we will be staying at the Best Western in Gurnee...not too far from base...but it was the one I could use our United Airlines miles program to get a free stay (paid with miles).  Where are you staying?  Are you going to any Meet & Greet?  I RSVP'd for Sarge's on a Maybe...we really would like to attend ...just hoping the drive works out as planned.

hi guys! Im reading often but not posting much.

@Lala I ordered ribbons yesterday hopfully i did it correctly because i too am not computer savvy!

@jojo, I will be beeping in pride along with you! what hotel are you staying at?

I am thankful to God for Brett. Prayers matter! My mom lives with us, she is stage 4b pancreatic cancer....we made family pictures before my SR shipped out, I will always be thankful for that because I dont think my mom will survive for him to return home after A school.

Does anyone know of groups of ratings moms? my son will be at GL for MR (machinery repairman). I looked GL A schools but like i said I kind of stink at finding things on this site. I have this group bookmarked or else I may never find it again! lol

On the last (and only) call I had with my son he said he had stress fractures in his legs and that it was painful. I havent heard anything since so I am assuming all is ok. I always thought they were "shin splints"? I am friends with a local army mom and they had pushed her daughter to completion with them and both she and daughter very much wish they hadnt. Her daughter quit at first honorable opportunity. 4Weeks of healing is bittersweet but I am thankful that our children's health is important to the Navy.

With my mother's health right in my home it makes me realuze again how important health is. We cant do anything without oyr health.

I am so thankful for each one of you and all your posts. it helps me so much. I miss my kid! I am actually surprised on how much missing him affects me!

Diannep - I believe you are correct...I saw they are only in South Carolina :(

But Thank you...Prayers to him and his family.

Jojo:  Here is the blood bank that will credit Brett:

Blood Connection

Ok, so she had told me they are located across the country, but I think she meant across the state since the locations all are in South Carolina.  :-(  But that is still a good thing!
