Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Try to find something fun to do and stay busy. If you have little ones at home there are several things you can do to make this journey a little easier for the, Make a paper chain with a link for each day they have left in boot camp and let them remove one link each day. It will help them see that this is only temporary. Other have also put a quarter in a jar for every day left and each week allowed the child/children to use the money for an ice-cream cone or even for a special card to send to their recruit, gumballs or gummy bears in a jar work well too and they get a tiny little treat each day. So many things can make it a better experience for them.

Melanie:  You can book the hotels whenever you like since cancellation policies are very liberal...usually up until day before or day of arrival.

It is not located right on the gated part of the base, but is about a mile away in the housing area.  We have had all positive comments in the past on experiences at Navy Lodge!  Be sure to book in your SR's name and specify Navy Graduation.

Thanks diannep... I will check SW. How soon can you book your room at the navy lodge? Is that on the Great Lakes base?

Melanie:  Does Southwest fly to Alaska?  As scootersmom found out, they are a great one to fly with.  What she didn't mention too is that two bags check for free!  So if they fly from Fairbanks, check out their fares into Milwaukee WI (45 min to GL, no traffic) and Chicago-Midway (hour+ and traffic!).

Comment by scootersmom94 on October 2, 2013 at 12:13pm

I just called Southwest Airlines and they dont charge any change fees.... you onlyhave to pay the fare difference if you need to change the date you are flying. YAY!!

My son arrived at BC 9/24. I keep seeing stuff about discount tickets. How does that work? I'll be flying from Fairbanks Alaska.

Wyman from Dallas Delta seems to be the cheapest. Adding 'trip insurance is just 17.00 so that is what I am doing today. With my fingers crossed.
