This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

I Just got my call. They are also doing great.  067 and 068 work together.  They also did well on one of the test something to do with Aircraft and Ships so they got their FLAG.  They are in week 3 day 1. He seems happy and keeping his head down as to stay out of trouble.  Great to hear their voice.

Thanks Arwen....

I got a letter!!!!

he wrote this New Years Eve at 22:45.....

Not sure when he was going to get a call, seemed like never. He is doing good overall and moving forward, a little slow but ....

His knee is acting up and that is bothering him.

He misses home and being around everyone. He does not regret the Navy choice but BC is kind of boring at this point LOL. He is ready to get out of BC and get started at Pre Buds,

THey did the first dive test and it was all 106 of them, he said it was crazy,

He also wrote a letter to each sibling here at home and his dad.  He told his sister to continue in ROTC and not to sweat the small stuff and to continue down her path and really wants to mentor her throught the military aspect.  She is pursuing a career in the AF.

So I am hoping we get calls so I can talk to him and tell him to hang in there,,,, I think he needs to HEAR that!

Okay, this part is public knowledge.

Recruits go through BS21 in groups of 10. They can fail as a group if they don't cooperate as a team, or sailors can fail as individuals if they fall asleep or otherwise make a personal mistake. In my son's group, there were four groups of 10 that failed, and about 12 sailors who failed individually.

All of them passed on the second try. It is very rare for a sailor to fail their second try, because they know what's coming.

Received a letter today.  Everyone in his division is grad and go.  He said they can spend Friday with us and he will leave Saturday.  They have had a lot of inspections and things are going good.  They have 65 in his division and 70 in his brothers (not sure what division that is).  He is trying his best not to get sent back two weeks.  He thinks five people have been sent back.  Some because the dates they came in on.  He also said send pictures.  Always great to get a letter.

Thank you all for your encouraging words, I'll dry my tears and get that letter in the mail!  I'm glad to hear you say that it really will get better - I was starting to wonder if I steered him wrong myself! Ok,  I am just SURE the next call /letter will be better :-)

Glad you got a call! :) Sorry your SR was down and not feeling well :(  I am glad you are writing an uplifting letter to him.  Keep em coming!  Still have 36 more days to go!  Hopefully they will be starting the "exciting" stuff soon!  Keep your chin up!  Hopefully he has a "buddy" he can talk to!  And I am glad we can be on N4M for each other!  Thanks for letting us know about phone call!  Just hearing about phone calls and letters helps me "know whats going on at BC".

Bexwest:  Remind him that A School is SO much better...more like a structured college atmosphere.  My son loved that.

Also, my son's father has also passed away...and I know it saddens are guys during this time at bootcamp ...when they really miss their dads.  But their dads are so proud of them....and I hope that they "feel" that....I know my hubby would have been so proud of his son making this decision...one that we didn't really expect from him....

And yes, your son WILL be fine...bc is up and down emotionally for them and for us!  You did the right thing...encouraging him and reasurring him.  They need to hear that...read that...positive positive positive!  So glad that you did that!  Hang in there...it won't be long now...and he will be before you in his dress blues!!!.

Bexwest - That's normal feelings --- after I dropped my SR off at MEPS and she was on her way to the airport, I called her recruiter to let him know --- and to thank him.  That day, he said to keep reminding her that this is only 8 weeks --- and that EVERY SR spends SOME time in their bunks wondering what the heck they got themselves into ... but that Boot Camp is NOT the U.S. Navy.  Once you're done with that --- and A-School --- it's smooth sailing.  Tell your son to hang in there --- never give up!  He's got you and ALL the N4Ms pulling for him!!  :-)
