This is the final test for your recruits. When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Okay, one at a time
Yes, there is tax assistanceonbase when they get to their A-schools.The schools will announcewhereand when, or if they don't, sailors should ask their paymaster.
Yes, recruits MUST successfully complete Battlestations 21 before doing PIR
A"mandatory" call is one of three that is guaranteed to recruits. The second and third calls are typically one-hour, but are sometimes shortened because of a lack of phones to go around, or angry RDCs. They don't have to earn these calls, and RDCs can't cancel it as a punishment (though they do threaten). However, there is always someone on duty back atbarracks. That recruit is usually (but not always) sent later that day,or the next day, to make his/her call.
Regarding those Grad and Go who are leaving Friday night - I recommend that you order a copy of PIR taped on DVD, then instead of Chicago, fly to the city where your recruit's school will be, and meet them there for PIR weekend. That way you can get two full days with them in Connecticut, Florida, or wherever they are going, and they will be a lot more relaxed, with fewer rules to follow than those still in Chicago.
However, don't count on all of them leaving Friday yet. Some will leave Saturday, and you will get Friday and part of Saturday with them. Wait until your recruit tells you his or her schedule.
My SR did not call, Maybe he was the one who fell asleep in class..lol. I am okay with not receiving a call. I have talked to him twice and have recieved a few letters. I know some parents/GFs/Wifes have waited and not recieved either. SO I am grateful for what I have received.
I now have a delimea. I have not confirmed with him,but he is supposed to go to A-School in CT. It seems like they are leaving on Fri Night. SO Should I spend the money on going to PIR or maybe wait a bit longer and go visit during ASchool? Do they get leave on weekends during A-school? Any help/advice on matter would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
send2herb....That was a nice comment. We are glad you are on N4M so we can have a guy/grandparents view on these things.
My SR made a point to not have a girlfriend when he left for bc. He has lots of "girl friends" . He said he didn't want that worry while he was in bc and he wanted to be able to concentrate on bc and not wondering what she was up to or doing.
Mindy,
I never knew how it felt for a parent not to get a call but the GF or BF does. Many years ago when I was in the Army I wrote and called my girl friend (who became my wife) and never thought how my parents would feel when she got the majority of mail and calls. Now as a grandfather I am finding out by reading, and yes feeling like so many on N4M's. I wish I had known then what I know now, I still woulda wrote and called my GF but I would have my mom and dad a little more than I did. I guess we are never to old to learn, wish I had done it when I was younger though.
