Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

This is the final test for your recruits. When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Regarding P-days and when to expect calls:
Because of the winter holiday schedule, boot camp does not accept new recruits for two weeks. However, they also want to keep the system going without a break, so they "stock up" on recruits, and hold them. They may be in holding (extended processing) for full two weeks, sometimes longer, in order to make sure a new group begins training every week.
The second phone call, the "I'm still alive" call, usually comes at the end of the third week of training (day 3-3, 3-4 or 3-5).
The third call, the "I'm a sailor" call, usually comes during the 7th week, but occasionally happens during the late 6th (day 6-5) or early 8th (day 8-1) week.
There are five training days per training week, weekends and holidays are not counted as training days.
If a division has not yet completed their 8 weeks, they will stay at boot camp after PIR to finish any training that was not complete before PIR. Fortunately, RDCs manage to cram a lot of the unofficial training into P-days, so they are often not as far behind as their training-day schedule might indicate. My son's division had to stay 3 additional days after PIR to finish training.
fondzysgrl- You are such a good N4M wife and mommy!
Tomorrow will be 4 weeks already? I hope my girl is saying, "Wow we are already half-way there!" Keep your eye on the prize recruits!
There are 2 different Navy hotels: the Navy Gateway Inn and the Navy Lodge.
Navy Gateway Inn is a suite-type hotel for those with military ID only. It is primarily meant as temporary long-term lodging for families who have arrived but not yet moved into their apartment or home, and for those who are on temporary assignment for a week or two. If you are a wife/dependent with a military ID you can stay at the Gateway Inn, but they discourage its use for PIR.
Navy Lodge is similar, but less formal, with smaller rooms for shorter stays. Some rooms have kitchens. Most require the sailor to be there at check-in, but the Great Lakes Navy Lodge has a somewhat different set of rules. For PIR only, families can stay at the Lodge as long as they have their recruit's name, ssn, and division number.
