keger, How exciting!!  Are you going to rent a car while there?

Keeger2001,I know it seems like time is flying now, maybe that's because I have my two grand children for the next 2 1/2 weeks. The SR's  have only three more Sundays to write home, can't wait for this weeks letter.

Lala, So there is an Airport on Base? I am sorry you did not get to see your Sailor leave.

You can also meet them and go visit in the USO if they are leaving from Ohare. You won't need a pass because the USO is before the security gate. They are used to having families wait with Sailors so it is not hard to get the pass to go past the gate. Just remember if you sailor tells you after PIR that they are on a chartered flight they won't come into the airport. They will go straight from the base to the jet and you won't be able to see them at the airport or give them their black bag or cell phones. Thanks goodness this does not happen very often but it does happen sometimes. It happened to me and my sailor :-(

Southern Mom, When you go with your Sailor to check in at the airport most airlines will issue you a Gate Pass no problem. Just tell the airline that you want to say good bye to your Sailor. I think your Sailor will have to be with you at the desk as you ask for security reasons.  If your son is meeting you at the airport he could help you with that. You would get a gate pass from the airline he is flying with.

Thanks Sandy for the info! I sure hope I get more time. I know they all have a job to do and I understand that so whatever time I get, I will be so grateful!! I have made plans to leave on sunday so that should give me enough time to see him off to A school. So, I do have one question..... If we are planning to meet him at the airport to wait with him, do we need a special pass for that. If so, where would we get that?

Welcome Lindee, I bet you are getting excited about going to see your son at PIR. This site will help you through so much. You will learn more than you ever thought you would about the Navy. My daughter/sailor was shocked at how much I knew and even asked me questions and had me search for answers. By the time she got out of bootcamp I knew a lot more about her rate and what A-school would be like than she did lol. So if you have any questions please ask. I sent you a friend request as well. Again, welcome :-)

HA!  That's great, Sandy!  Nothing like the RDCs taking our posts here and using them to "motivate" the SRs!  HOOYAH!

Lindee:  Welcome!  You will find alot of great info here....fireteamleaderwife, Sandy, Lala, Betsy and I are all veteran ladies who will do our best to help you through.  And, fireteamleaderswife is right ...please delete your post (hit the "x" in the box) since you disclosed the last name.  This is Navy security for all groups on here...but in your case here, it does obviously identify you with your SR.  We try to get on this site to support each other, not cause any problems for our SRs.  So just try and not disclose too many personal details that could identify you with your SR.

Again, Welcome, and hope we can help you through this!

Fireteamleaderwife, and Lindee.  My son's RDC used to read the posts on our PIR group every morning. We mentioned (with out using names of recruits) how several SR were not following orders. Their behavior was causing all the recruits extra work and push ups.  The RDC said to the Recruits:  See, you have all these moms mad at you.

What could be worse than a bunch of mad moms from NavyForMoms??
