Diannep!! LoL you are so right.  Boot Camp is no fun. It is stressful. I would be concerned for the SR who said he loved being there.

keger:  That is what the Navy does best!  They take a group of SRs, who may have never been close friends in the civilian world, and they turn them into sailors who "have each other's back."  I'm so sorry that your SR is feeling like this right now, but it won't stay that way.  This is still a breaking down process for this PIR group...painful and discouraging.  But when the build-back-up process starts, I bet your SR will be good!  Just keep encouraging like the other ladies say...I am never worry about the SRs that are unhappy and frustrated in early bootcamp---that is so normal to hear.  I'm more worried about the ones who say they LOVE it...because believe me...it was not designed to be LOVED!  Being "changed" and "refined" is never a fun process for anyone.  That is what they are going through---changed, refined, and functioning as a team.  I have a feeling that there are some others feeling as your SR does, but maybe haven't spoken out.  I will pray that there is a real sense of "teamwork" that comes over your SR's division, that doesn't exclude anyone---all feel a part of it.

TexasSailorMom and Lala Ribbon Queen.  I agree.

My son called me after his second PFA to tell me he had failed. After that, I was almost scared to get a phone call. Everything worked out in the end.

My son's division only got to call if everyone was on their best behavior. Working as a team. This is hard because there are about 60 guys and they all have different ideas as to how things should be. I think It really depends on the RDC. Some RDC's won't let them make any calls.

Most do get phone calls at the end of week three or early week 4 but no calls are guaranteed, not even after Battlestations. if they have watch or an appt (medical/dental) then they may miss when others in their div get to call. Like Sandy said "No news is Good news". that is the only thing that is for sure, if they get held back they will have them call. otherwise, assume they are having PIR when scheduled. (I did not get a call after BS but he did PIR on time)

I just added an really encouraging questionnaire to the discussions above. I wrote this one and sent it to my daughter. It is funny in some places, and has a paragraph to help them understand and get through the remainder of bootcamp. You can just copy and paste it and tweek it to fit your needs ( remember my sailor is a girl). This one should be sent between the half way point and about 2 weeks before battle stations. You can even send a couple extra copies for your SR to share with friends. I hope you like it. :-)

keger- I would encourage him to just keep doing his best, that is really all anyone can do and I am sure they will come around. Maybe he could offer to help out a couple who are struggling at something he is good at. You know maybe offer to help someone study or shine boots for someone who is terrible at it and maybe they will offer to help him with something as well. I hope this helps :)
