HI 7/15/11:  I joined your group so I could ask a question.  First Congratulations on your Sailors.  My son will PIR this coming Friday 7/22.  The question I want to ask is if any of you stayed at the RAMADA.  I read that there is a strange odor there and I am wondering if it is still a problerm.  We are staying there starting this Wednesday and wonder if I should bring a room deodorizer spray with me.

Lindee:  You got great advice here from the ladies.  If YOU have the cell phone, then your son can reach you.  He can use a phone card, or there will be families there who will let them borrow their cells, as Sandy said.  Of course, by now, I'm hoping that you are there and have spent time with him.  Please post when you can and let us know what happened!

Lindee, You could just go to the airport and wait. I am sure there will be other Sailors/Navy families who will let him use their cell phone to call. Or he can call from a phone booth there. If qit were me. I would grab dinner and just head out to the airport.

Question!!  is it you who does not have a cell phone or your son?

Lindee, what airport is he going to?  We are going to Midway around 3:00 AM, we may have to have him paged if we can't get a gate pass without him present, since the USO is past security.  Our son wasn't 100% sure which airline and he said when he gets to the airport he can call.  Not sure why we are going so early but he did seem like he wanted us to come and be with him since he doesn't leave until later AM.  I know this doesn't help much.

don't know what we are supposed to do!!!!  Not sure of the time to go to the airport.  My son wasn't sure of the time and now he can't get in touch with us due to no cell phone, any advice?

Ha, BoosMom!  I knew it would be "a while" before they would come off of Cloud 9 and respond!  :-)

Ok, for all of those going to the airport tonight or in the morning to hang out with your sailors....have a wonderful visit...get ready for happy tears as the people in the airport are so wonderful to your sailors....some even giving standing ovations as the sailors board the planes.  You will feel pride like you have never felt before....such a great thing!  I missed this with my son (newbie that didn't know about airport visits) but hearing the stories that I have heard...tears....such a great thing.

So-- hoping that you all are getting a couple of hours of sleep right now before heading to the airport!  Remember....USO at Ohare is where they should be....but if you are going to Midway, the USO is past security so your sailor needs to meet you in front of security to go with you to get your gate pass at the airlines counter to continue your visit with him/her until the plane leaves.  USO is wonderful in assisting military families....so ask for any help that you need from them.

The end of a perfect day and chapter in our lives; but the story continues. Each new page is filled opportunity and adventure. This is turning out to be a great book.
