What div and ship is getting calls? Oh man, I am so happy for you but my sons letter kind of gave me the impression that they have had some trouble with talking
:( Bummer, I could be wrong though. My son is DIV 223 Ship 04, anyone got calls yet? I got my first letter yesterday.
Did you guys just get the call? I wonder if they're going in some type of order? I'm waiting anxiously by the phone!!! :-) I got 2 more letters this afternoon while waiting for the call, and he said it was a scheduled call so it's pretty much confirmed that I should hear something tonight. (I hope) He said he made a few friends, and that's so good to hear. I'm glad that the letters are getting a little more upbeat, and he's coping a little better. Come on Ship 07 Div 221-let my SR call!!!
I think their test was a written one about the stuff they were supposed to study in DEP. Like the general orders and sailor's creed and stuff.
I got a phone call from my hubby. He got to talk for 45 minutes! He says the whole division is sick, and if he felt better, it would be a cakewalk. lol. He said he's really sore though, and there are a bunch of teenagers (hubby is 27) that can't keep their mouths shut, so is costing them some IT. He hates IT but loves PT and passed all his swim tests. The big bombshell is that he is thinking about switching rates from Engineman to Corpsman. He would have a years worth of A School in San Antonio, TX but we would be able to move with him. Except, I was planning on moving in Oct or Dec, not the end of next month! AH! I have tons to do. I will be anxiously awaiting his next letter to tell me what he decided so I know how and what to pack. He wanted my input and I said that I wanted him to pick a job that he would be happy doing. That's all I cared about, because when he was happy at his job, he was a whole different person. Everything else is just details and we'll work it out. We met at work, so I got to see his worst side first, then I got to see him doing something he really enjoyed and it was like a whole different person, still Nick, but better.
He also gave me some advice to post for other recruits or soon to be recruits. Don't think about anything except what you're doing right then. Don't think about home or your family or tomorrow or the next week until you get in bed. If you're folding your underwear, think about folding your underwear. (His example, not mine). He said the older guy there (who is 32) told him bootcamp is like a filter. The people that aren't going to be able to handle the stress will be filtered out. It's all a bunch of manufactured stress to make sure they can handle it when lives are depending on them. I don't know if that stuff is comforting or not, but I thought I'd share it.
Hoping everyone else got calls!
Got my second letter from SR! She sounds terrific...she passed her PFA and got promoted to E2! Passed the swim test which was last week and getting ready for first inspection tomorrow. She said the food was great even gave me an idea of what she was eating...taco salad, apple slices with PB and frosted mini wheats! She said she is adjusting well and likes her RDC's! I am so happy and proud and grateful!
HAAA, Janell. Calling a person by the wrong rank/rate is a big NO NO but is done by most of them until they learn how to recognize the difference. They all learn this pretty quickly!
Ahem....Chiefs sure don't like to be called Petty Officers...but I'm sure they were having some "fun" with him too. IT (Intensive Training)is very common during bootcamp. When my son was there, one person in their division did something wrong that cost the entire division to do IT for 2 hours! But...to make it "sting" worse, the RDCs (their bosses!) would not allow the "offender" to participate. He had to sit there and watch his shipmates do it...torture for him! He ended up in tears...you can imagine. I think my son felt badly for him...but they are trying to emphasize "teamwork" to the SRs....one person's mistake can cause the entire crew to suffer.....
My son said they were doing bear crawls, etc forever...and they were all so tired afterwards (this was early evening) that they just collapsed in their racks when done.
Try not to worry...this is very common and he will learn quickly!
lol Janell, I am sure it's not a great thing to do but I am also sure he was not the first to do that. He probably just got IT (intense Training) for and by the time you received the letter it is probably already over with and I am sure he did fine. They all get it for one reason or another and it just makes them stronger :-)
I got a phone call late this afternoon!!! Said he was really lucky to get to call - He volunteered to fill in for his RPOC today because the RPOC was getting wisdom teeth pulled, I think? Anyway, my SR was nervous about doing everything right and called a Senior Chief "Petty Officer". I hope I'm getting the terminology correct. Thinks he's going to have lots of IT? or PT? He's pretty worried, so I'm worried too. Otherwise he said everythings been great, except he doesn't like the food!!! Does anyone on here know how bad it is to call a Senior Chief by the term Petty Officer?
