Meegan - the only reason I thought of asking my daughter before she left was because of this site! tears are flowing for you...I am so connected to everyone on here and we are all feeling your pain...continued prayers are with you
Meegan, prayers with you today. I hope they are able to help you figure out how to handle it.
You are in my thoughts and prayers Meegan, I really hope you are one of the moms who get to spend the weekend with their Sailor so you can have lots of time together to talk about and remember his best friend. <3 I would also do like Dianne Said and ask his other friends not to tell him about what happened because you don't want him to find out in a letter or on facebook. I hope you are able to get some rest tonight.
Hoping that you get some advice today, Meegan. Prayers...
Good morning all!
La La ribbon queen, I never even thought of the Facebook thing. I am going to get on his facebook and change his passwork before Battlestations. I hope I know it (Ithink I could figure it out) I will call his recruiter today and let him know what has happened and see what I can do. I would just die if he found out on FB. I will be back at lunchtiime, I really wish I would of asked him things like that before he left, I was so wrapped up in spending every second with him that I missed a few things. I will make sure i do these things after graduation
I never had that conversation with my son. I guess I am not that good at this. I knew that it was not an option to tell him right now, I do not want to have this coversation at all with him. I wrote in a letter to him just yesterday before I found out this horrible news "You do not know how strong you are until strong is your only choice"(thnx to Navy Moms for the quote) and am thankful that i have 5 weeks to plan it out and say all the right things. I want all of you to know that I have read every post that you each have posted and I am going to continue to process everything. You are all amazing and I truly have a level of love for each of you. I am awakeand have not slept well, i think the enormity of this situation is just now starting to really hit me. I am going to get some coffee and take some time to wake up, I will head to work and be back on at lunch, thank you everyone for your help.I have no idea what I would do without you
Oh my, Meegan. So horrible....I agree that it would be best if he not know now, however, I agree with Lala that he could find out. Is there a chance that one of his friends would write him and tell him--even before he might see it on FB? I feel the info needs to come from you. I'm wondering if you can call the Public Affairs Office and see if you can speak to a Chaplain? Just to see what might be best in this case. I know this happens...we N4Moms have seen it happen before.
Here is their number...may be worth a call 847-688-2405
Prayers for you, your son, and his friend's family....so very tragic.
Meegan, ((hugs)) I can only imagine the pain in your heart too. I totally agree with everyone and would tell him after graduation. As JDM suggested, I think doing it on Saturday would be the best choice. If you were to tell him on Friday, that would cloud the happy day that you have all been waiting for, for so long. As others have said, I also asked my son what he would want to know while he was in BC and he said he only wanted to know if something serious happened to his immediate family. He will understand why you couldn't share this news until after he finishes BC. My prayers are with your family and the family of the young man.
Meegan, so very very sorry. I asked my SR before he left what kind of news he wanted to hear while in BC. He said NOTHING, mom , dont tell me anything, not even if my dog dies. I really dido all the advice the other moms have posted, but you dont have to decide now when to tell him. We still have 5 weeks left. Huge hugs to you and your family
Meegan - I am so sorry to hear this tragic news...I asked my daughter before she left for BC if anything were to happen to anyone in the family would she want to know during or after BC...she said after. I agree with all the other ladies on here that I am sure his best friend would want him to continue towards his goal for the rest of his life...again my prayers
