I am so sorry to hear that Meegan. What a tragedy and such a waste of a young life. I do agree that it is best to not tell him. But there is always a chance that he could get on facebook after battlestations and it would be sad for him to find out that way. If he has a facebook page do you have access to his password? If so you could go in and change the password so he wouldn't be able to access it. I will keep you and him and of course his friends family in my thoughts and prayers. The good thing is you have plenty of time to figure out what would be best. I would talk to his recruiter and who knows maybe he knows of a way to keep him from be able to access facebook. I;m just not sure what kind of pull they have. But they do have computer access on just a few computers and some choose to get online while waiting for a phone to be available. They do have to pay for the internet use so maybe that is something he wouldn't do. You know him best so I am sure you will do what is best for him. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and prayers for you.
Meegan, My thoughts and prayers are with you and the other families. I don't think that I would tell your son just yet, and I believe that your son's friend would want him to stay focused on what he needs to do right now. If your unsure as to what to do, then I agree with navyknit22 suggestion about getting intouch with the chaplin. Unfortunatetly I'm sure that something like this has happened before and they will know how to best handle this. Sending hugs your way.
I just got some horrible news that my son's best freind was killed on Saturday night. My heart is breaking for at some point I am going to have to tell him. I know not now, but I guess after graduation. He was hit by a drunk driver and there were 2 other victims that are in critical conditon. I am not sure what to do at this point they have been friends since they were 11. For goodness sake. I am going to the funeral, should i take a photo of something? Anything? Is my son going to understand why I could not tell him until he was done with BC? I am going to need to do this right! I am not sure about the other 2 kids whether my son knew them or not. I just know that Shane and him were very tight. If anyone has been through this and can help me I would really be greatful. Thanks everyone and I hope that none of you have to go through this.
I was the "list queen" last March. We had planned a family vacation that ended up being our honeymoon, too. We brought our 3 month old and 8 yr old. I had a list of stuff for the luggage for each person, toiletries, stuff for the cabin, stuff that could go in the trunk. A bag for swimming list, a cooler list, a list of dry goods to take because we have a condo and cook a lot of our meals, so also a list of perishables to buy there. My hubby thought I was crazy. But we didn't forget anything. Yay! I would not recommend driving from N IL to Orlando straight through with a baby, FWIW.
I am definitely a list maker too lol. I can't do anything without a list. We are all so much alike, no wonder we all are friends :-)
In a world that is so crazy and stressful, who can remember anything without LISTS??? Or....maybe I'm just getting old??? :-)
JDM, Lol, nope, I'm sure there are many of us. I'm glad that I'm in good company too. :) Enjoy your night!
JDM, I totally agree! If I didn't make lists, I never remember anything. They don't bother me about it anymore, because there were so many times that we went away and they would forget something, but mom had it with her. :) They depend on me to have things now. lol I have 5 children so lists were crucial in our house. They have even said, "ask mom, she will have it" many times. :)
