Have you heard from your daughter or son?  My daughter is in Div 300 and she sounds good, but tired.  Interesting in hearing how your daughter or son is doing.

Travel plans: First - it's a personal choice and has a lot to do with costs, time off work, your emotional state (it's hard to see them at PIR and then let them go). Do whatever makes you comfortable. But overall, I need to share what 95% of the parents/wives/families do: Come to Great Lakes a day before PIR (early enough to attend the meet & greet), then drive/fly home on that Sunday.

Now, you guys have a holiday that Monday, and your recruit "may" get that day off, they may not. I'm going to ask a friend of mine who had PIR on 7/2 (4th of July weekend) and see what the scoop was - then get back to you.

My son was a G&G and we were able to see him until he walked onto the plane at 1pm on Saturday. Other Moms were with their sailor until 3pm. My husband and I then drove into downtown and checked out Navy Pier. We got a great nights sleep and spent Sunday morning checking out the Botanical gardens, then caught our flight home. Did I miss my son? Yes - but guess what! We handed him his cell phone and his laptop at the airport - he was texting us between flights, called us that night when he got to Pensacola and we've been in constant contact since. I would of been exhausted had we tried to fly out Saturday night.

The form letter suggests buying refundable tickets - please don't! Unless you find one heck of a deal, it will cost you several hundreds more for that type of ticket. It's actually cheaper to buy a normal or bargain ticket, then pay the change fee if you need to change your flight. If you have to cancel your flight, you get credit for the value of the ticket for one year IF you cancel 1 hr before it boards. Now, when you go to use that credit, there's a fee. Let's say fee is $100, they deduct that from the credit - then you make up the difference if the new flight is more than your leftover credit. Refundable tickets would of cost us $800 each, but I spent $378 on regular tickets and the change/cancel fee was only $80 (which i didn't have to do).

Recruits sometimes get hurt, they get sick and some do not pass all their tests - so the Navy holds them back one or two weeks. Which means they are put in a new division and will have a new PIR date. I'm not trying to depress you, this is a reality check and you should know these things.

Morgans mom - My son told me that his paperwork stated he is leaving on Saturday the 4th, so that is when I am going home as well. I decided this before I received that information, because nothing is definite (I think he is considered Grad & Go). I went back and forth on what to do but decided I would hate to stay there 2 days after he leaves.

Andrew's Support, What a way to start the week! Our guy's have been under so much stress these last 2 weeks! The recruiter should have already asked for or had the transcripts in your sons file. Try not to worry, vent to us on here anytime! HUGS to you!

Well I have found out that I do not want my son to call. Yesterday morning at 0530 he called needing his high school transcripts. Of course I don't remember seeing them after graduation. I had to tear my office apart to not fiind them. He then called every hour asking for them. Of course the district school office doesn't open till 0900. I think he was stressed which stressed me out. I finally got ahold of his recruiter at about 0845 who had gotten a copy from his school. I faxed it off and haven't heard from him again. We didn't get to talk but I could tell he was tired. I really hope not to have another call until his 3-4 week call.

Does anyone know when we would find out if they are a grad and go? or are our kids going to have liberty with us on Monday too since it is a holiday? I want to start making reservations but don't know what day I should plan on flying home. What is everyone else doing? I will fly out there on Wednesday but not sure when to come home. I just talked to the recruiter and he will try and find out, but he also said it is very odd that they are graduating on a Thursday instead of a Friday.
