Our youngest Sailor is driving cross country to WA to report for duty . It appears that not all the family members understood it to be WA State as apposed to Washington DC. Busy day for texts and phone calls. He is fine and sad for all.

The Washington Navy Yard is the headquarters command for the four government run Shipyards located in Portsmouth NH, Norfolk VA, Puget Sound WA and Pearl Harbor HI. They don't actually work on ships there; the workforce is mostly civilian with a sizable minority of relatively senior officers and very few enlisted personnel. If Admiral Rickover were still around, his office would be there. I feel for my fellows there...

Deepest prayers and blessings for all those at the Navy Shipyard in DC.  Tragic and so sad for the victims & families. Burning my blue candle for this sad day for the NAVY.

Thanks me too. I know that they were getting ready to leave for Sea for a week so maybe they are just really busy getting ready. But yet I also know that yesterday was his day off. Maybe I am just being a little paranoid. This is my first go around. lol

Has anyone been able to talk to their sailors Sunday or today? I havent been able to get a hold of my son and wasn't sure if maybe it had something to do with the shooting in D.C.

Your sailors should also check the prices at the Nex furniture store... there is one on Whidbey... they have great prices on furniture!

One other thing after graduation have your sailor stop at the Nex and buy themselves silencers for their dogtags.  Most of them will know what they are (the rubber rings that go around the tags so they don't clink everytime they move).  They can also purchase an ankle wallet there. Then they can carry their id and some money and even a cell phone while in uniform.
