Sheri and Angie and all...Good news! Scott and his small band of stranded travelers left Pasco last night in a car and drove all the way back home. He was here at 4:30 am! He was with a mom and a 4 yr old boy, and a young couple too.
Amazing! Thank you for all your support, help and kindness. He really thinks it was awesome that you offered to help so much, and would have loved playing XBox with your boys, Sheri! He's sleeping now, in his sweats and sweatshirt, and has our golden retriever laying beside him. First thing he did, was sniff the kitchen as he walked in and said:..It smells like home! After nearly 48 hours, several canceled flights, sleeping on the USO floor at LAX, missing the standby list by 4 names!! and then having the flight diverted to Pasco, he is finally home for 2 weeks.... happy dance! Thanks for looking out for him!

Hi Sheri, thanks so much!!...Right now he is safe and hunkered down at the Red Lion Inn, and getting a good meal finally. He and some others are talking things out...he said half the folks flew back to LA!! For now, we have a plan, but one question for you....what are the driving conditions like around there?
Comment by Storymom on December 22, 2008 at 12:19am
oh my gosh, it just gets worse....my son's flight from LAX was diverted to Pasco Wa, and they were all told to take the plane back to LA and there would be no flights til Christmas Day, or get off the plane and find your own way back to Seattle!
Some sort of de-icer problem with United. We were at the cell phone lot at Sea Tac waiting for him..and he's landed over the mountains, almost 300 miles away!
He said the people are just fuming! Everybody trying to figure out what to do.
Well, he got off, and now we are told, no buses out of Pasco either! We'll try to book him on a flight with Alaska to Seattle, but everything gets canceled up here anyway...we may as well figure out a way to drive over there and pick him up!
What a nightmare for these young folks...he could barely speak, he has been trying to get home since Saturday morning from Florida.
grrrrrr!

I'm getting worried about the weather. We have plans to fly back with my son after Christmas for a week. We plan to rent a car from SeaTac. If the weather is too bad to drive for this California girl are there other methods of transportation to Bremerton?

Debra Oh that we could all be there to see the smile on his face and yours!
We are on our way too, to pickup our sailor at Sea-tac, about an hour away...but the conditions here are improving and certainly not as bad as PDX.
Go Navy.....Bless em all!

Get those blue candles burning on Christmas Day for the Sailors far away!

Kelly-you and your son will have a special place in my prayers tonight and in the days to come. There are lots of great moms on this site. Watch the discussions above about getting together with other Navy moms. Most of all be gentle with yourself this holiday season.

Sue-- be sure to join the Whidbey moms site- it is one of the discussions above. We wish safe travels to one and all... Tell your sailors there is a great USO at SeaTac airport should they be stranded there. They have meals, beds, tvs, nintendo and smiling volunteers to greet you! All they need to do is show their military id to access the USO. It is located on the floor above the security check in points.
My son is scheduled to come home on Sunday. I have a reservation for him with Shuttle Express. I am not sure how the roads will be and don't have 4 wheel drive. I told him if need be I will hitch up the dogs in the neighborhood with a sled to come and get him. Stay safe one and all!

Hello All!
We have close to a foot of snow here in Redmond. What a winter wonderland. Not sure when it may get better! Whidbey had another five inches of snow this morning. My son was recalled to stand duty and since the base was 'closed' found it easier to walk the mile and a half. Consider me 'hunkered down'. Baking cookies and wrapping packages!

I truly do feel welcomed and supported! Words can't express my gratitude for the offers of hospitality for my son. I only hope I can reciprocate some day. I plan to stay a member of this group (ok?), since part of my heart is in Bangor. Big heartfelt hugs! Kaye
