You can send them stamps, paper, as Lala said. I did this to mine...he threw it away!  UGH!  Said he had navy stationery to write on, and he did.  Sure wish he had given these supplies to someone else...but don't worry, they can still write to you even if you don't send the paper/stamps.

You can send stamps, paper, and envelopes. Letters don't have to be in standard size envelopes. You can send cards as well just not musical. You can send the paper, stamps and envelopes in a manilla envelope. I sent a small writing tablet and about 10 envelopes. (you can send more in a week or two if they need them). You can even make labels with your address, his address and others that he may write to. You can go ahead and put the labels on the envelopes. It will save him a lot of time by not having to write the info on the envelopes. Tell him you did this so he would have more time to write to you :-) I did this and sent several extra labels with my daughters address on them and her friends in bootcamp were getting them from her and marking through her name and putting their own to save them time as well lol. You would be surprised how long it takes to fill out envelopes to 4 or 5 people.

The sailors who don't have family coming normally pair up with another Sailor or a couple more and share a taxi and go to the mall or out to eat. We saw lots of Sailors at the mall who didn't have family with them. They were just all hanging out with each other. I am sure they would love to be invited to spend some time with your families. :-)

What a great idea! I will have to let my SR know that he can invite another SR for liberty as well. I got so wrapped up in planning to see mine, I forgot to think that not everyone may have family there.

Margie and Proud2b. You are definitely allowed to invite other shipmates. Unless the rules have changed which I doubt they have. How kind of the two of you to do this. I am sure there are Sailors whose families can not go to their PIR.

Margie, As far as I have read and know all the graduates will have liberty unless they have duty.  You can have your SR invite shipmates to join you as far as I know.  My SR is doing the same unless we are told something different.

Kjkooz, I think i'm right in saying that our SR's are only allowed to use the papers and envelopes with the Naval Training Center stamp on them. I just send stamps now and again to my son.Hope that helps !!!

Question, we were wanting our sailor to invite a couple of shipmates that dont have anyone coming to their graduation, so they can hang out with us for however many days they are given.  Is that allowed?  or are sailors only allowed to leave RTC with their families?
Comment by kjkooz on September 1, 2011 at 10:15pm
Can anyone give me info on letters from SR? Are we supposed to send him paper stamps, and envelopes? If so - how can we fit all of that in standard envelopes? I am hoping that "we" aren't the reason why he can't get letters out!
Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on September 1, 2011 at 9:45pm
I don't know if this is true for all Post Offices but the front window will be closed on Saturday so if you need stamps or need to ship something that has to be weighed you should take care of it tomorrow. The mail will still run on Saturday it's just the counter will be closed. Monday they will be closed and the mail won't run so next weeks mail will likely be a day behind.

Thanks, donnac, for confirming that about the Dress Blues.  I love both uniforms, but am partial to the Dress Blues.  They are almost black, they are so dark.  They look so sharp!
