Thank you for the welcome, Mary. I'll take advice and support over a fabulous prize. My daughter is just starting her A School in GL on 12/10. She will be an ET. This is all new to me so I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions. Sounds like a long, but exciting, journey ahead for her.

Thanks Mary. I have my work cut out for me over the next 5 months. There's so much info out there! :)
  • Bobbi Ray

Thank you for giving me some answers. The way we have heard it that Rus will be training other reservest that come for the weekend. I don"t know how true that is. Is this what your friends sailor does? Is your friends son older-my son is 26 and I have noticed that the other 3 moms I have met, their sons are all 25. did he get to have a pick for his duty station? my sailor says he doesn't. alot of reserves go to their home state or close to it-I don't think this is the case for my son..He is AE and will be working on the F-18 so he will probably go to a coast.

I'm sorry for asking so much...I just want to learn all I can.

                                                                   Thank You

Thank you very much for filling me in on that information. Right now, my SR and I have been in a relationship for 5yrs, our anniversary passed a few weeks ago, and we're hoping to make this work. I'm still in NJ working towards an Associates. I should be done within two years.

I'm hoping we can make it through all this and become even closer. Times will be tough, but I'm very proud for what he decided to do with his life. His family and I are really supporting him to the fullest.

I'll be sure to look to you and the other ladies in the group to help answer any questions that I might have. Again, thank you! :)

  • Paxston'sgirl

Hey! He has finished his A-school in Great Lakes and will be going to Damneck, Virginia for his C-school at the end of January.
  • NavyGirl10(Ship09 Div076)

Thank you for the info. No she has been told which way she will go yet. It seem that the recruit gave some conflicting info. But as my husband told her, her best bet was to do her best in her classes and score as high in the class as she can. That when he was in , the highest score gets first choice. I guess thats the best advice she could have got. Because when she left, she was brushing up on her old math class text books. Funny I never seen it when she was actually in High School. She wants to be as close to haome as possibly, but in sure the lure to some places will be hard to pass up.

  • Darnell

Thank you so much for reaching out. Yes that is my daughter in the pic. I miss her so much, but I know she is doing good.  I'm not sure if she is going to be an ET or a FC. When do they decide which one they will take?
  • Sailormom21811

Thank you Mary for the information and words of encouragement. We have received 3 letters plus the form letter so far. Unfortunately he is not receiving our letters, only 3 out of about 20 mailed so far. Broke my heart when he asked me to write in his last letter. We still haven't received a call...makes for a stressful time. He seems to be doing great even after having to get the cold pack! We are so proud of him and look forward to PIR. He is so happy about AECF and thank you for the schooling info. Great to hear you are also in Ga...we could see some "Chicago" weather here this weekend! Appreciate your reaching out to me to help smooth the rough spots!!!
  • Darnell

    Thanks Mary,

Who decide which rate. Does my daughter or the Navy? She would love to travle and be stationed somewhere  I think. She wants to see the world. Do the rates transfer to civilian life?

  • Sailormom21811

Thank you so much for your encouragement. This is such an adjustment for all of us. Of course as a parent I want to send him all of the encouragement I possibly can but I realize now that I have to let go and allow them to build a sailor...

Congratulations on becoming a grandmother! I hope mother and baby are doing well. My best to you and your family. Safe travels!
  • Karissa {FC_Wife}

Hey Mary! Thanks for the comment. Yeah my Hubby is in A school, should be finishing in a few weeks now but we'll still be in Great Lakes for a while. Orders are pretty backed up from what i'm hearing. and YES, our baby girl is due May 16th =)
  • Momof8

Hi Mary, thanks for friending me. Kim was told that she would be an ET when she was visiting MEPS(?). I am hoping that some day she will move into cryptology, because she had had a dream of going to Japan to teach English and then come to america to teach Japanese. She got 100% on the Language test. Kim's father was an ET when he was in the Navy(before I met him). I am so new at this that I do not even know what I should be asking about.
  • Momof8

Contact with Kim has been the first call, merit call, and  3 letters.
  • ProudGMBarb

Thanks for the warm welcome! It will be nice to get to know a seasoned Navy Mom!!!  I can't imagine how proud you and your hubby must be! We are so proud of our grandson right now, just after graduating boot camp. It's such an experience to watch how quickly our boys turn into men! Keep in touch!
  • tstms2003

Hi Mary thanks for your welcoming response. Four more weeks till PIR (2-18-11). Then we will be able to communicate with him a little more. Looking forward to going to Chicago for his graduation. He is so looking forward to this training A and C school. He just finished a two year tech school last summer in electronics. He was leaning towards ET when he left but also liked the sounds of FC but I don't think he really cares one way or another. Back when I was on active duty I was stationed at Hickam AFB, Hi from 88-90 and my son was born there. I would bet your son is have a great time there sure can't beat the weather as I'm saying that it's about 5 degrees here in northwestern Pa.

     Thanks for your response. Berk

Next time you hear from your son, ask him what rate he is going into or perhaps you already know that.  It sounds like he could be going into AECF, which is Advanced Electronics Computer Field and that is the group for ETs which are Electronic Techs and FCs which are FireControl (not fireman).  If he is in that group, you will want to join us at :  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/fcsfirecontrol

Hi Mary Thank you for befriending me. Not sure exactly what you mean about what rate he is going into? I do know that he's going to school to be a hull tech. Is that what you mean by rate? LOL I'm so happy I found this site....there has been very little communication with my son so far so this site helps tremendously with what I've been wondering about these past weeks Thanks again

  • RissysMom(Proud Mom of a Sailor)

Hi, thanks a lot for the info. She figured about the length of A school, she wasn't sure where.  Do they have any chance of coming home for a couple of days while in A school? I'm already panicking...besides graduation I need to see her..We all do here in California.

That must be so beautiful, your son in Hawaii.  That's Great..

  • RissysMom(Proud Mom of a Sailor)

Hi, thanks for responding. I am really hoping I get some time with her after graduation.  I guess phone calls and skype are gonna be better than nothing. Wow, I only have two weeks without hearing anything and I am going crazy. I am having good days though, just knowing the importance of her new life is what keeps me going. I know I will hear her voice soon. Just didn't realize HOW HARD it was gonna be.  I thank you for taking the time to inform me of what I must.  Take care and talk to you soon.

    Catrina

  • RissysMom(Proud Mom of a Sailor)

Oh I hope so, she is my youngest of two and she and I were always together. That's really good to hear. I am so grateful for you and this website. I would be sitting here literally going out of my mind..lol  Thank you.

I'm here in California, I hope the weather isn't too bad during her graduation..3/18/11. Have they ever cancelled a graduation due to weather?

Hi Mary! I was an AW1 and was picked up for the Seaman to Admiral program and am now an Ensign Naval Flight Officer. My brother will be going to AV "a" school and select AT or AE. My best to your husband and son.
  • NF Mom

Thanks, just waiting for the After Battle stations call at the moment.

Storm in Chicago may have delayed things..l

  • Deb (FC Mom)

    Mary,

Thank you so much for the welcome and the information. I am getting better at navigating the site and am thrilled to have found this board. It could be a full time job navigating in here. I was wondering about what C school was and when it took place...glad you have mind reading abilities. Since my son has neither his laptop nor a cell phone yet, I haven't learned anything since dropping him off last Sun night before heading home. At least he knows how to deal with copious amounts of snow. Just saw a sailor on the Green Bay on the morning news and wierdly beamed with pride, life has shifted once again whether or not I'm ready.

  • Momof8

We went to Kim's pir last weekend. She is now going to A school for ETs. I think that it starts in 2 weeks if I understood.
  • Carol(ship12 Div.091)

Hi Mary,  Thanks for the welcome.  As you know this is all a new experience and any info or advice is welcome news.  Thanks again.   He will PIR 3-11-11.  Carol
  • Lisa Brown/Cory's MOM

Good Morning! I am very excited about his decision!! It will be so good for him!

I am not sure what you mean by rate.

I am loving all the info on this site but a little overwhelmed also.

Where is your son right now?

  • Robyn

Hello you commented to me a while back. Yes we ate in southeast Georgia and my son is no longer in ROTC he has graduated high school, bootcamp and " A" school and is now deployed. Im a mess right now he just left about a week ago. Do they get to call home very often we have heard from him once and he sounded like he wasn't allowed to say anything. Like his bootcamp call. I'm so Proud of him I'm just really missing him can you help me with some of my concerns?
  • WifeyForLifey!!

Hey thanks for the welcome!  I can't wait for the sunshine and warm weather!  We are looking for places online now..
  • Elizabeth

    so your son is AECF
  • Elizabeth

oh ok yeah mine is AECF, and is thinking about FC i think cause he doesn't get shipped out at all or another one
  • Elizabeth

oh so he will definitely go on a ship at least once in the job he has now. and after that he stays shore duty?
  • Emily

Hey Mary! I am actually no longer in Cornelius but I LOVED that area. I miss it quite a bit! So your husband is the FC right? I read your comment on my page, along with Deb's, and I got you two mixed up. I am still getting the hang of N4M. I went on here a lot when my husband first left but now that I am over the initial hump of anxiety I haven't frequented the site as much. It is funny to look back on here and think about how worried I was a couple of months ago and now I feel like a pro so far. I am sure I will have questions though, especially when my husband classes up for a-school. Anyway, has your husband retired? How do you like the Lake Norman area? Are you living down south too? Ok now that I have played 20 questions I will be going! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

baylorbear works with me.  Her daughter is in boot camp now.  Kathleen - who started the USS Blue Ridge page lived in WACO.  She showed up at work and for a month - even while Patrick was here - I couldn't figure out where I knew her from. She works with the rehab people contracted.  I finally figured it out when we were in a meeting and she said her son used to be on the blue ridge.  DUH

Hi Mary, I sent a email about a week or two ago, I had some stress since my sailor been on deployment.  I really need to network with the other N4M & other groups.  Also, need help with my profile & setting pages. Because I hadn't been out here since I joined in July 2010. A new administration did email me back I somehow accidently lost her reply and don't know if my private setting is correct.  I think it happen adding you has a friend, I don't know what I did wrong.  Need an Administration help.  Thanks Carrie
