After PIR Travel

After PIR is there a restriction on how far the graduates can go?  My step-son wants to meet us in Chicago, which is about an hour away, after graduation.  Wasn't sure if they are allowed to go that far or if it's too much to do in one day?

Baby missing daddy?

Any one know what to do?

I have a 13 month old daughter and she is super attached to my husband who left for bootcamp 7 days ago. She has always been independent but for the past week she is inconsolable. She is so moody and it's like she dosent know what she wants. She climbs in to my lap just to get back down and sit on the floor and cry. She dosent want to take naps, and is always Eating. I know this might seem silly to some of you but I'm feeling so over whelmed and im not use to not… Continue

Not Sure What Son's Doing

I really wish I knew what program my son was going into after bootcamp.  I know it's Aircrew, but he said he has at least 2 years of school ahead of him before he even begins his job.  He told me what it was at MEPS, the recruiter had just told him, but I didn't write it down and now I can't remember...ugh!!!  I wanted to look up information online about it.  Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

Waiting is hard.

My husband got swore in on the 13th of May in San Diego, he flew to Illinois on May 14th. He is now in his 10th day at boot camp I guess you can say. I am missing him more than ever before. I am living at my in laws house. Its so hard waking up every morning and not having him next to me, going to bed every night and not having him there. We are a team, we're so used to being together all the time together and now that he's hundreds of…

Memorial Day through very differant eyes

Perspective is everything. I remember Memorial Days from days gone by, both as a kid and with my children. Parades, events, beach days, a long weekend. On the edges of my mind I was fully aware of what the holiday was truly meant for, to remember all of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. May 15 isn't far away from Memorial Day, it is Police Memorial Day, rollcalls are read, friends remembered, wreaths laid. I created the Honor Guard and memorial for my department, and attended every…

Daughter leaves for BC 16 June 2015

She got the call last week that her ship-out date had moved from November to June, she was hesitant. We have been supportive and encouraging of her decision, either way. She will go to Charleston, SC for Nuclear School for two years, following her PIR.

I am trying to be less emotional about it all (depends on the day), however some days the tears flow out of pure joy for the immense pride I have for her, already. I know in my mind she will be fine, yet it seems the heart rules more…

It's Been Awhile, but I'm BACK!!!

Well, the last time I blogged was when I was talking about attending the commissioning ceremony for my son's ship, USS America in San Francisco.

My husband and I went to the commissioning ceremony, and we had a WONDERFUL time!!!  First we went sightseeing.  I always wanted to go to Madame Tussaud's museum, and we went there. Took tons of pictures! The ceremony was beautiful and so many people attended from all around the country.  While we were walking down the pier, my son was…

Missing My Sailor

Well, I survived my son going to boot camp, the training school and about 3 weeks of being stationed out of the country so far. We have a free app that allows us to communicate and we have kept in close contact for the first 3 weeks. We are very close and I love hearing from him. We have gotten to week 4 now and I haven't heard from him in days. He leaves on a mission in mid June and that means even more time away from communication for who knows how long. I know he needs to move on and live… Continue

Staying calm in a storm of change.

So I got a call from my son today, it was wonderful to hear his voice. The beautiful thing is that he managed to call on the day his sister graduated from College! How wonderful was it that the two of them got to speak. As I am sitting here and writing this I am thinking of all of the change that has come to pass in our life over the last two years. His graduation from college, hers, his entry into the Navy, her engagement and upcoming wedding (maybe his:)), BOTH of them moving to other…

POST PIR REFLECTIONS

Reflecting on last Friday's PIR, I can honestly say I am full of anticipation and hope for my daughter in her new Navy life. I just watched 589 men and women graduate and become sailors in the finest military institution. Am I biased? Yes, but I shared the day with an old sailor, my dad, a Navy Reservist who spent 14 whole days on the same base almost 60 years ago. It was a proud moment for him as well, to witness the pageantry and protocol of such a distinguished occasion. We got to hear an 11… Continue

Why was Cade Butler removed from USS Port Royal at JBPHH around 2009-2011

Looking for reasons why my brother, sailor Cade Butler (petty officer), was removed from USS Port Royal sometime between 2009-2011. Why he was going to court for something that sounded to be justified for prison. Why he died in 2011 in his TPU barrack at JBPHH.

Even if I can understand why he was removed from USS Port Royal (CG-73) would help close a bit of the lack of understanding.

New to the site and can't seem to find the answers?

Hey everyone, first time asking a question and I know it has been asked before but I tried reading through older post and there are way to many. I have really found a ton of great info. My question is my son left Meps and arrived in Great Lakes may6. I have a few questions. First being is there way I can get his ship and division number so I can locate his PIR? I am a single father and trying to schedule my summer vacation with my daughter so we can see his PIR. My other question is how do I… Continue

Justin

Well ladies, I know I haven't been on here in awhile. But yesterday I got to see my youngest son off to bootcamp. Emotions are still running high for me right now& I don't like the sadness. I'd rather be happy for him, I wish I could just turn the tears off. Even as I'm writing this, I'm finding it harder to believe. I just hope the next 2 months go by real quick. Me& my husband have been looking into how we're gonna get there for his PIR. He doesn't want to drive because that would…

Graduation

I had a question about the number of guests that can attend graduation.  I know they say 4 people to a recruit, are the very strict with that?  What if there is more than 4 people in the family do we have to choose who can go?
