March 19, 2013 Daughter Left for BC

My daughter left for BC Mach 19, 2013.  I was wondering if there were any other moms out there who may have sons or daughters who left on the same day.  I'd like to connect with some other moms on the site with similar timelines, but not quite sure how to get started.

Some Graduation Questions.

I've read that assuming my Recruit does in fact graduate, that a video of PIR and a yearbook are available for purchase by her parents .  I'm my Recruits Godfather and I would also love to purchase a video of PIR and a yearbook.  Can and if so, how do I order these items?  What about an official Graduation picture, is one taken by the Navy at Great Lakes, and if so once again, can I as my Recruits Godfather purchase the picture?  I…

missing my daughter

It's been 1 week, 5 days and I'm terribly missing my 19 yr. old daughter.  I could only imagine what's going on in her head, the challenges, the ups & downs of boot camp - I could only pray that she is strengthen mentally, emotionally & physically.  This is the girl that tried so hard in 1 year to get a job but unsuccessful,  so she never held a job so I just hope that she is adapting in this "new world".  Our last night, saying good-bye at the hotel was the hardest thing,  I felt…

Navy Reserves

My son was sworn into the Navy Reserve one year ago. I attended the ceremony along with the recruiter and Lt. who swore him in, however, when the time came to drill, the recruiter kept cancelling my son, telling him that his paperwork was not yet completed. About 8 months later, the recruiter "forgot" to tell my son not to show up to drill so my son went. On checking in, he was told that he was not Navy Reserve and no paperwork had ever been submitted. Its been a year now and the recruiter…

Graduation RTC

When attending my son's graduation, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan.  It was very clean and their complimentary breakfast was awesome.  In trying to pick a hotel to stay in, I was very confused as some ppl said this place was bad and that place was bad so I was really apprehesive to pick a place to stay but the Holiday Inn Express turned out to be good.

It is located only 3-4 miles from the base and located next to a Walmart and several resturants. They also had a…

My Future Sailor is Becoming a Man

The other night, while my husband, my son and I were eating dinner, we were discussing his leaving. I was telling him about things that I found out about on this site and he just smiled and said "don't worry, I'll figure it out when I get there." He is so nonchalant about his leaving. A year ago when he started the application process, he was just an 18 year old who had made a decision. But he was ONLY 18. Still had…

Boot Camp Material to Memorize

My goddaughter is reporting to boot on August 14, 2013.  I know from reading the blog that at boot there is material that she will have to have memorized.  I’m going to list the thing that I believe she will have to know in no particular order and I would appreciate your thoughts on which items to memorize first to last (just list out by the associated number).  If I have included an item that doesn’t need to be memorized, please let me know and she will remove it from her to do list. …

Just picked up my sons diitty box from FED EX. Honestly surprised I did not cry. I am so very proud of my son and  about his decision  to join the US Navy. But got to say, It is so hard when you have only one child and the nest is left empty !!!! Only got to hear his voice for 10 seconds to say I arrived.  I hope this gets easier REAL SOON!!!!  Now I just wait for the first letter with his address.   Also worried due to freezing tempetures as he is use to Miami weather.

Self addressed with postage on it, postcard question.

My goddaughter is reporting to boot on August 14, 2013.  I know from reading the blog that the Form Letter will be mail and should be received by her parents 7 to 10 days after arrival at boot.  If I sent with her a self addressed with postage on it postcard, with my address, (I’m her godfather) would she be able to mail this to me with the info needed (ship#, div#, street name and last 4 digits of the zip code) as a quicker way of being able to send her letters?  Or will the Form Letter…
