Received a wonderful 52 minute call from our son today! Sooooo good to hear his voice and know that he has settled in and actually enjoying BC. He said he was in Division 906, but still wasn't given his form letter to fill out and send and probably would be another week before he gets it. He also said that his PIR date would be 12/28...that is the not so good news for me. Although I am proud and happy for him, the one thing that kept me strong was being able to have him home for Christmas. …

My son tells me that I need to sign him up so he can spend thanksgiving with a family there at boot camp. Does anyone know where I can find information on this program. He leaves November 7th for boot camp.

My son leaves for Guam soon and his father insists he needs a passport.  My son says he checked and was told that he did NOT. He flies out of Boston to Tokyo and then to Guam.

He was told he just needs his Navy ID.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

Before BC I asked my son to leave me a voicemail on my cellphone so that I could hear his voice at times when I really needed too. His message although personal has been an incredible source of strength at nights when I'm longing to go into his room to give him a hug and say goodnight. Part of his message that I would like to share with everyone are the following words:

Is anyone else out there have a child in this class? My daughter has been at OCS for a week and a half and I have received two phone calls and one email from her. I was oh so proud to see my grandson in his PIR. He appears to have grown up a lot and is determined to be a good sailor. I am happy for him. Yet I was sad for another grandson who so very much wanted to join the Navy. My new sailor is even disappointed that his cousin was denied admission, saying he would have made a great sailor. I received our sons box today. I would be lying if I said I didn't cry. I'm so proud of him but miss him terribly. I'm still waiting for the letter that contains his address and now wonder if I dare send all the letters I wrote and am writing all at the same time. I've never looked forward to a letter so much in my entire life and it IS taking for ever. Patience is a virtue, this I know.

Well Thanksgiving is just around the corner. My son is now in Va. He is set to fly to Fresno Ca on the 21st of November. Lemoore will be his home base. With him getting there the day before turkey day, does anyone know if he will be able to come home for the holiday. We live only 90  miles from there, so we would love to pick him up. Still waiting for our son's address, it's funny how a week can drag by. We were so happy and surprised to receive an unexpected phone call from him on Sunday the 28th.
