Just sent my daughter off to Bootcamp.

Holly just left for Great Lakes on Wednesday.  I got the call that night saying that she was there, she was safe, and that i will be getting a box of her stuff in about a week or so followed by a letter in about 2 to 3 weeks.  Boy, that was hard.  I feel like I am lost.  I can't talk to her or even see her.

So sad...

Just got a "brief" letter today from my son.  Said he just found out that his division is "Grad-N-Go" and will need to be back at 5.  Didn't say what day, but I'm told that is 5 on graduation day.  Thought I had the weekend with him, now I have only a few hours.  I'm feeling so sad right now.  I want more time with him!

Graduation

Recieved a letter from the Navy Recruiting District NY. It states that some up coming graduations the public may not be able to attend because of heightened security on all military installations. My daughter is set to grad in Mrach. Does anyone know if and when they will let us know we can attend grad.

Got the call

Thanks for the heads up that the first call from my son would seem "scripted" and would be very short.  It was a relief to get the call.  I actually wore my cell phone around my neck all day!

I realized that I was quite "blue" the day he left.  Eventually I realized that I could connect to him in some way if I thought of his new Discipline as some thing I could also do.  So I thought of 2 areas in my own life , 1 personal and 1 professional, that need extra effort on my part, and…

So today is the second day.  It seems like forever.  I hope the days start going by quicker.  I have not found out what div or received "the box" or a letter from anyone.  :) maybe tomorrow will be the day.

Reliable and Reasonable transportation

If you for any reason do not rent a car for PIR, keep this name and number handy:

Phil with Metro Group taxi service is very reasonable and is very reliable.  I looked at shuttles and other cabs and he was by far the cheapest.  $70 from MKE to Libertyville.  His fare is cheaper if he picks you up/drops you off at O'Hare.  Just want to share this source as he is not computer savvy and does not have a website.  I booked him after he was recommended by the La Quinta in…

5 down, 3 to go!

Every Wednesday starts a new week for our son.  Since he left, my daughter and I do a "Pound it" knuckle tap to celebrate another week down. We were most thrilled today when we looked ahead and actually felt that the 3 more to go is finally not such a big number!  We are so anxious to see him and cannot wait to hug him, and hug him again!  Question?...do I dare send him a Valentine card or will that cause problems for him being teased?  Don't want to bring any attention to him at this stage of… Continue

boot camp questions

Hi everyone! My boyfriend has been in BC for almost four weeks now. I have recieved one phone call and no letters. I know he has sent a few now because so far he has had two Sundays where he was allowed to write and said he sent them. Why am I not recieving them?! Does anyone know how many more times he will be able to call within these next 4 weeks? And if they'll be able to write more than just Sundays? And also how long does it usually take for them to recieve a letter?

Thank you…

My son left for bootcamp today

My son just left today for BC.  They picked him up at 9:30 am.  He's 18 yrs old and I am very sad.  I don't know how to deal with the sadness.  I tried to be brave in front of him because I didn't want to make him feel sad.  He was suppose to go to Cal State Pomona when he graduated high school, but he told me 2 weeks before his orientation that he decided to join the Navy.  This was in August.  They took him to San Diego where they tested him and he got a score of 96.  He picked his job and…
