I haven't heard my son sound this excited and confident in years! He took his pledge yesterday. It's increasingly clear to me that this is the right path for him.
Thankful that he's chosen to serve our country, I wonder whether he knows what he's in for. But then, does any son or daughter know what life's next chapters hold? He's strong, of that I'm certain, and the Navy will make him stronger.
I'm uncertain how to respond to well-intentioned friends who say something like…
ContinueThe days are quickly ticking off my calendar for Kate's ship out to Boot Camp. I am trying not to, but am finding it hard not to be jealous of my remaining time with her. She works full time, but also has at least two days off in between 24 hour shifts. I am extremely proud of her work ethic when she offers to pick up a 12 hour for a coworker, but that takes away from time I could spend with her. Her best friend attended paramedic school with her and they work at the same company, but…

I was wondering if anyone knew of when results would be sent out to students in regards to the ROTC scholarship. My son has applied and gone through the interview process and was told he would get the highest recommendation, this was back in November 2014. Any advice, suggestions are welcomed.

I think my son will be enlisting very soon. He at least wants us to meet with the recruiter before he takes that next step. I find myself excited for him - he really wants to do this. Right now, at least, I'm not even too nervous about him leaving (but I'm sure that will change!). I don't know how long we will have between his enlisting and shipping out, or how often we will be able to be in contact - either by phone or in person. But I have a few more days to make my list of questions and…

Last night our family gathered at a local restaurant to honor my dad on his 77th birthday. Afterwards I went to my sister's home to plan my daughter's Anchors Aweigh party because my sister is awesome at party planning. The rest of the family, not wanting the evening to end, followed us back to her house and we spent sweet fellowship together as an extended family. As I reflect on these things this morning I am struck by the rich heritage my dad passed down to his family. A Navy man for…

I got up this morning and looked at all the beautiful pictures of Navy families proud of their Sailors. And I it inspired me so much that I needed to blog this. My daughter is just days away February 4, 2015 and everyday for me personally is bittersweet, I'm so proud of her bravery and ambition to want this. This was her goal for the longest yet I hate to see my baby go, but her Chief Petty Officer recruit visit our home, with such a sunny spirit and gave us the best reassurance of my…

I wake today in the early morn
My thoughts consumed with my first born.
He’s hard at work at Navy Recruit Training Command
I miss him so, he will never understand.
His voice, his charm and his big heart,
Are with me as each day starts.
His big blue eyes and awesome smile,
I carry with me all the while.
No call, no mail, no contact yet.
But today is a day we will never forget.
It pains me that you are…
