I'm SOOOO sorry for your pain.......as a parent it's difficult when our kids are out of our reach. We're so accustomed to helping them work through their difficulties/hurts. And this is an entirely different new world....for both of you.
Now, believe me when I say that in the first few weeks of Boot Camp, it is very normal and frequently seen for them to be upset. You will get letters from them that are not favorable and it will be so painful to read what they write AND their phone calls can be difficult.
Keep in mind that Boot Camp is not a walk in the park. It is a life-changing and life-altering environment for them and the first few weeks are very very difficult. You most likely WILL get these kinds of phone calls and letters and it is very common.
What to do??? As the parent, we have to keep our sanity and be nothing but a pillar of strength for them. Pass it along to them......assure them this is normal......it will get better. Tell them to hold their head high. That this is their time to shine and to show the world what they are made of. And write write write them.....every day. Send pics. And let us know how YOU are doing, okay? We are all here together for each other.
Keep newspaper articles, copy them to send (don't send the articles themselves). Same for magazine articles. I know guys like stuff about their favorite sports teams. Be sure to number you letters. Start saving money for going to graduation. If you don't make it to graduation, be sure to order the cd, photos and bound book. Don't beat yourself up if you don't make it to graduation, many don't. With the economy the way it is, sometimes we just can't do things we want to do. It's hard to see BIG babies cry. LOL. Just keep hanging in there rainmom.
And if you haven't go ahead and join your PIR group. Here is a list (for everyone) of the latest PIR groups.
