OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Profile Information

A little about me:
I have been a Navy Mom for the past 6 years. It was hard at first but now I love it and enjoy getting to visit my son at his different duty stations. Back in August 2007, my husband and I took on the raising of our Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews. We are going to court this Thursday, April 9, 2009 for Total Permanent Guardianship. The kids are really great kids and enjoy living here in Springfield alot. They are all getting A's and B's on their grade cards. I have a 17 year old girl who will be 18 this month, a 15 year old boy who will be 16 this month, an 11 year old girl who will be 12 this July and a 10 year old boy. I raised two boys so raising the girls is a lot different. We are making do. My husband lost his job back in July 2008 but so far we are not in real bad straits. We both love the accomplishments that our Navy son has made and are looking forward to going to all the different places that he goes to for Duty Stations. We try to let one of us go each year so that we both get to spend time with him.

Do not worry about your child. He is in good hands and will be taken care of. He will have lots of travel experience and lots of chances to see all parts of the world and experience all kinds of situations in life.

HI Melissa, we have a great zoo here in Omaha. The college world series (baseball) is played in Omaha every year. There are a lot of new areas with great restaurants, movie theaters here in Omaha too. Then of course there is the Hustker football team in Lincoln. Offut is kind of in the boonies, but not far from Omaha. Joanne is right it can be extremely cold here and tornadoes are no fun. Summer there are a lot of thunderstorms too. We are originally from California, have lived here 2 1/2 years. There are things I like and things I really don't like. I'm sure your son will make many great friends at Offut. If he ever needs anything us Moms in the Nebraska group are always here!

My son is an OS2 on the USS Curtis Wilbur. He has been there since December 8, 2006. He is due to come home some time after the first of the year. Don't know which month. He will be going to his next Duty Station at that time for 3 years. Yes it is hard to have him so far from home. I was lucky and was able to go visit with him last December for 17 days. I really enjoyed myself. The country is just beautiful and the people are very friendly.
