April 2011 Blog Posts (62)

this is my world . . .

I find the map and draw a straight line

Over rivers, farms, and state lines

The distance from here to where you'd be

It's only finger-lengths that I see

I touch the place where I'd find your face

My fingers in creases of distant dark places

I hang my coat up in the first bar

There is no peace that I've found so far

The laughter penetrates my silence

As drunken men find flaws in science

Their words mostly…

Graduation

Just received a letter from my son a few days ago, he said that right after his graduation from bootcamp he might have to go straight to A school, either Friday or Saturday. My husband and I were hoping to spend sometime with him on the weekend. I just hope he is wrong and at least we could have untill Sunday. Does anybody know if this could be possible?

Day 33 - missing my son

Yes, it's been 33 days. Have received letters for 4 weeks in a row. He mails them on Mondays & we've been receiving them on Thursdays. Thursday has become my favorite day of the week. Haven't been able to focus much at times, find myself wondering, what he's doing, guess it's the same of all of us moms, dads, wives, etc.? I understand the Navy must evaluate the new sailor recruits & see what they're made of...but this really tests what we're made of too! His letters are full of info…

SR

I just heard from my SR who is in division 133. He is doing well. All he have to do is go through battlestations on Sunday. He has passed everything else. I am so happy. I told him to keep God first, make good decisions and work as a team and everything will be good in the end.

Proud Aunt of Holly's

I just want everyone to know how proud I am of my niece. She joined the Navy, went to boot camp in Feb. and now is graduating April. 8th. I am sooo proud! She is the first niece or nephew to graduate from any military services.

After graduation she will be going to Florida, and then coming home for a couple of weeks. Can't wait to see her!

Love you Holly!

New Navy Mom

On Monday, I said goodbye to my son, my one and only child, the love of my life. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.  Everyone says, "It's only eight weeks."  What they don't realize is that Boot Camp is eight weeks.  Then, he's off to A School in Pensicola, Florida (we live in California), and no telling where he'll be after that.  So, no, it's a lot longer than eight weeks.  I have one of my son's sweatshirts that I won't wash because it smells like him.  Am I crazy?!  I…

Upcoming Graduation

We are preparing for the trip to Goose Creek for the final graduation ceremony (he did boot camp in Chicago) in a couple of weeks to see bonus-son before his next assignment, and of course to celebrate his achievements! We are very proud of him, and Nuc school has been a welcome challenge for him - he has worked very hard, as his mates have as well! He has made many new friends and he's maturing into a quit the young man!

For now, looking over this board and…

First call from Sailor after getting underway

Hello there N4M's!!

Well, last night I got my first call from my Sailor since he's reported to his ship!  They were in port and it was awesome to hear his voice!   He got his first (and hopefully last for awhile) tat - and is really happy with it.  It's the symbol for his rate - AM.

He sounded great!  No complaints, said while underway, they work long hours and work really hard, but loved liberty while in port!

Did mom's heart good to hear from…

SERE

Anyone else have someone leaving soon for SERE?

I'm nervous even though our son is excited about going.

I suppose I'll be burning my blue candle again and saying some extra prayers....

Blessings to all in the same boat......Suzi

I'm surprised I lasted this long.

I don't know if it was because I took my youngest for a haircut today and thought about his big brother getting his head shaved or if it's because ...aww man I miss him and my emotions just got the better of me.  There I was locked in the bathroom blubbering.  I'm still waiting for ship and division information...well time to write another letter.

Is there a website that you can see "real time" photos of boot camp

Hi...I am a first time military mom.  My son just went to Boot Camp March 22 and I was told there was a website we could go on to see pictures of them.  Does anyone know if this is true and where it is?

Thanks!
