Day 51 - Battlestations begins/Day 52 BS21 done - I have a Sailor!

Yes, today is day 51 since my son left for BC at GL.  It has absolutely been the longest 51 days of my life!  He is my firstborn & I find myself wondering where did the time go & when did this kid grow up?  Tonight, about 15 minutes from now he goes into BS21....I really just wish I could have been there to give him a big hug & wish him well.  I was fortunate enough to receive an extra phone call this past Sunday for 5 minutes & wish him well.  I have written him nearly…

Day 47 - call #2

ok technically this is call #3, but #1 was the "I'm here" call.  Call #2 only lasted like 2 minutes...seriously, actually it was less than that.  So call #3 was today, on day 47 since my son left. He sounded great!  We were all home so put him on the speaker phone!  Best invention ever, even though you have to share the call with everyone, you don't have to repeat everything their telling you to everyone.  He was only able to talk for 5 minutes, but it was fantastic to hear his voice & very… Continue

Day 33 - missing my son

Yes, it's been 33 days. Have received letters for 4 weeks in a row. He mails them on Mondays & we've been receiving them on Thursdays. Thursday has become my favorite day of the week. Haven't been able to focus much at times, find myself wondering, what he's doing, guess it's the same of all of us moms, dads, wives, etc.? I understand the Navy must evaluate the new sailor recruits & see what they're made of...but this really tests what we're made of too! His letters are full of info…

Day 23 - Phone CALL!!!

Ok, technically I should have written this yesterday....but it was a busy day.  Got more letters from my son, he also wrote separately to his sister.  AND most of all received the week 3 PHONE CALL!!! The phone call was short, but it was fantastic to hear his voice. Call came in at just after 1800 our time.  In his letters everything is now in military time, so I'm getting much better at it now too. Called his dad first on his cell & then me on mine.  Got to talk for all of 1 minute…

Day 16 - first "real" letters received

YAY!!! I received letters from my son today!  Was great to hear from him & he writes exactly like he speaks. I could tell he is doing awesome.  He was really good with the detail, which I must say surprised me considering the fact that I don't think he's ever written a letter.  Back when we were at the recruiters office they had several letters written to them from SRs in a book & I was reading them - I made a comment how nice the stationary was & I better get a letter from him… Continue

Day 10 - form letter day!

YAY!!! got my form letter today with all the official info & PIR date...super excited & great to here from my son, even though it was only a few lines.  Best line "Love you all!"  yes with an explanation point too!  He had a few instructions for us to handle for him, makes me wonder how he's handling instructions?  He's pretty independent & in my opinion would make a great instructor for future new SR...LOL. Already made our reservations & cannot wait to head up to GL for… Continue

Day 7 - box day

Received "the box" today!  I wasn't as emotional as I thought I might be, maybe because my daughter was with me.  I had just picked her up from school, she had written him a letter today & was a little upset on the way home saying how she wished she could talk to him & she misses him.  Good grief they did nothing but argue & tease one another on a daily basis...but I know they love each other & would do anything for one another!  It was really a great day~~~my new little niece… Continue

Day 3 what a wonderful son

It's been 3 days & I can't help but wonder what's going on & how my son is doing.  Going about my business at work, I received a call from the front desk to come up when I had a chance.  Low & behold 1800Flowers had been by.  I received a bright & cheery bouquet of flowers, but best of all a note from my son.  He got me & everyone else in the office!  "Hey I know you want me to write you as much as I can, so I thought I'd get a jump on it and let you know that everything is… Continue

Day 1 from home to GL

Ok dropped my son off last night at the hotel & up first thing this morning to meet him over at MEPS.  Typical mom stuff, did you eat? how'd you sleep? you ok? And a few more questions....he was awesome today!  Sort of just kept smiling & laughing at me & telling us all he loved us.  He's all offically sworn in & signed the contract to change him from DEP to Enlisted.  I couldn't be more proud.  So many well wishes from family & friends today.  He didn't want to take his… Continue

so excited - so nervous

My son leaves for BC a week from today & I still can't believe it.  It is so surreal.  While I am extremely excited for him (he's overly excited) I am so nervous at the same time.  I hope that this experience lives up to his expectations.  He's not a bit nervous or scared about the unknown, quite confident actually.  I just hate this no contact for 8 weeks, after all we are a close family & talk many times a day.  I keep telling him the 12th order is to honor your mother & make sure… Continue
