That's interesting Donna. My berthing had empty rack-my cube had one and I figured it had to do with availability. I would suggest that your son get to know a female in his shop/job area. Liz was a great help to me. I did her name down on my application as a co-sponsor. But one tiger in my cube didn't have a female sponsor, only her son. One interesting fact I learned after tiger cruise.
On the bus from the base to the airport to retrieve our car, we had a sailor escort. He told me there were 1100 tigers on board. And the ship returned to San Diego with 600 more people on board than they deployed with. Only 400 sailors got off in Hawaii. That's one of the ways that racks are freed up for the tigers. Some take leave, some go back early to prepare for the squadrons return-one sailor in my cube did that.

Actually, that is not true. I have a son and both my husband and I got to go. It is for parents, children, siblings and extended family. My son asked a female sailor in his shop to be my co-sponsor and I stayed in her cube. But there were other female tigers who didn't have a female co-sponsor, just her son. Ben was responsible for me, but Liz was a tremendous help in the female berthing. Go on it ! It's an experience of a lifetime.

Vickie,
no worries. Your son will notify you when he needs your application. Ben sent a link to the application to us. We had to email it back to him, then he turned it in. Also, I had signed up with the ombudsman for the ship to receive their monthly newsletters and they also sent me the applications. We got ours in early July for a 10-1 cruise. Go on it, it's a fabulous experience!

Hi all,
I am not aware of that program. Ben just came home from a deployment on the Lincoln and he never mentioned a voicemail program. If they had it, I sure wish I would've known about it.
But it sounds cool.

I just took the tiger cruise aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. My son is actually assigned to a squadron called the Blue Blasters and they are assigned to the Lincoln.
I had contact with Ben nearly everyday via email. That was wonderful. I guess it depends on their job on the carrier.
Take the tiger cruise if you are able.

Hi to all, My son Aaron is on the USS George Washington. He is an ABE the green shirts on the flight deck. The picture of him here is when they left Va and this is going through the Strait of Magellan. He said he had never been so cold in his life. They hit a bad storm as they came out of the Strait and the waves were higher and going over the flight deck. It makes a mom pray.
