Reagan Family here, too
Hello, my son is stationed in Japan on the Reagan carrier!
Hello! My son is on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Happy to be here!
Excited to have our son finish both A and C School and be heading to Norfolk to await the arrival of his Ship the USS George Washington, would appreciate any tips or info from other families. He has been matched up with an IT Sponsor.
Thanks, Terry P

Dry dock is just like normal times in that the sailors have limits placed upon the distance they may travel from the ship during regular liberty hours. As ships company, they must be prepared to be recalled from liberty in an emergency. When they are on leave, they can travel further away from the ship, but must be prepared to be recalled to their command in an emergency.
However, many of the sailors will stay at hotels or motels on a liberty weekend just to get some time away. In dry dock, many of the sailors will rent apartments because the ship they have been moved to stay on as their living quarters while the carrier is being worked on is even more cramped than the carrier.
After two west-pacs on which we set the record for consecutive days at sea, when we were sent to dry dock, I stayed in the temporary berthing on the small ship for about a month, then rented a one bedroom apartment in town.
No Navy regulation against it.
Hello!
My son is reporting to the Nimitz. I too am wondering if there are any parents with sailors going to be on this carrier.
Does anyone know if the sailors have to stay aboard while dry docked? Or can the sailors go home, other than being on liberty?
Thanks and have a great Thursday
mamabear - Happy for you that you are hearing from your son on the TR. I know what that is like as mine is on the Bush. The CV took over for the GHWB and now it is TR's turn!
I see that Molly's Adopt a Sailor's April Adoptions are 8 small groups, several of which are on the TR!
