Lowering of Flag Ceremony Every Evening At Dusk & history of the Base

It's well worth taking the time to see the Flag Lowering Ceremony!

THE BUILDING OF LEMOORE NAS

In 1954, the Navy searched the Northern California-Nevada area for land to build a master jet air station - one with congestion free air space.

Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and the nearby accommodations. Construction started in 1958. With base housing, administration facilities and the flight training areas in operation, the air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961.

Located in the San Joaquin Valley approximately 40 miles south of Fresno, CA, nearly 5,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees work onboard, with an average payroll of $120 million per year.

NAS Lemoore's primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of this mission is the operations area. Designed to support more than twenty fleet squadrons, it serves as a master training center for carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the United States Pacific Fleet.

Welcome SouthCarolinaProud.

Hi SouthCarolina, my daughter bought a truck while she was at A school in Pensacola, she then drove it (all by herself) all the way to California.  The navy paid her miles and hotel and a per diem and she actually ended up being able to pocket some of the money because she didn't spend it all.  She is keeping her registration in Florida, but because it's now in California she had to change the insurance to cover where  the car is.  It actually saved her $80 a month to change it.. I guess Florida has some of the highest insurance in the country.  Anyway, once she got it to the base, she had to take a test on safety before they would tag it and let her bring it on to the base.  Having a car in Lemoore is actually nice as the towns of Lemoore and Hanford are 20 minutes away and those are the closest towns with malls and movie theatres, etc.  As far as changing the registration, as long as they are military they don't make you change the registration unless you change your legal residency.  I was at the base for a few days last month visiting my daughter.  It's not anything like Pensacola... but it is really nice to have more freedoms that they did not have in A school.  My daughter is actually in Lemoore for C school and will be going to Washington state to join her squadron in September.  Is your daughter going to be stationed there or doing C school there?  Welcome to the group!  There's not a lot of activity here, but a few of us try to answer some questions when we can.

Hello everyone. New to this group. My daughter just got her orders today an she will be coming to Lemoore. She graduates A school in pensacola on may 1st. She is a AO. So any information you can tell me about the base there would be helpful. One question she wants to being her car. Is there anything specific she has to do to her car before bringing it to Cali? It's registered in South Carolina now with SC insurance!! Thanks for any advise. She is still making payments on it so she wants to bring it.

Hi mother always.

Yes, there is a Navy lodge on base.  I stayed there last month while visiting my daughter.  It is nice, they actually have 2 different lodges and the one I stayed at was converted barracks rooms.  They have tv's, satellite tv, refrigerators, microwaves and even put mints on the pillows :-)   I believe it was $55 a night which isn't bad.  The motel 6 in Lemoore is cheaper, but it's also 20 minutes away.  It was fun staying so close to my daughter on base.  Highly recommend :-)
