OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

THE BUILDING OF LEMOORE NAS

In 1954, the Navy searched the Northern California-Nevada area for land to build a master jet air station - one with congestion free air space.

Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and the nearby accommodations. Construction started in 1958. With base housing, administration facilities and the flight training areas in operation, the air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961.

Located in the San Joaquin Valley approximately 40 miles south of Fresno, CA, nearly 5,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees work onboard, with an average payroll of $120 million per year.

NAS Lemoore's primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of this mission is the operations area. Designed to support more than twenty fleet squadrons, it serves as a master training center for carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the United States Pacific Fleet.

He actually likes it out there - except for Lemoore being a desert and they are far from the water!! He is use to just being 200 feet from Lake Ontario!! He is actually involved in a lot of the activities out there - golf, softball, soccer, basketball, they go bowling on Friday night. He has actually become very good friends with some of his co-workers out there too. He is an Air traffic controller so he works days and nights. Have your son get involved in some of these activities if he likes sports. They have a great time, for softball then even travel to san diego for a tournament. I love being able to text and have phone calls now. I can't wait to see him in May! Take care and good luck.

My daughter is a AO and she is driving her car from fla all the way to Calif. so she will have her car there. I hope it gets better for him. I'm sure it will.

Comment by castlerock53(ship11div350) on April 12, 2013 at 4:12pm: He's bored b/c he does not enjoy his job & it's an expensive cab ride to get anywhere to enjoy the weekends. Thankfully his roomie just bought a car so that has lessened his dislike some. Mainly, he made the mistake of letting his recruiter talk him into enlisting w/o declaring an MO & now he's stuck in a job he doesn't want to be doing. And w/ all the military budget cuts that are being pushed thru his chances of switching to an MO that he wants is going to be next to impossible. Sorry didn't mean to sound so negative in my earlier comment :)

He is not liking it very much, tho. He will be home next month for his brother's high school graduation, so we are excited to see him then!!!
