Lowering of Flag Ceremony Every Evening At Dusk & history of the Base

It's well worth taking the time to see the Flag Lowering Ceremony!

THE BUILDING OF LEMOORE NAS

In 1954, the Navy searched the Northern California-Nevada area for land to build a master jet air station - one with congestion free air space.

Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and the nearby accommodations. Construction started in 1958. With base housing, administration facilities and the flight training areas in operation, the air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961.

Located in the San Joaquin Valley approximately 40 miles south of Fresno, CA, nearly 5,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees work onboard, with an average payroll of $120 million per year.

NAS Lemoore's primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of this mission is the operations area. Designed to support more than twenty fleet squadrons, it serves as a master training center for carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the United States Pacific Fleet.

Thanks Becky. He is AO and arrived there early in March. Finished schooling right before Easter and moved across the street to the barracks. He started BC September 30th and signed for 5 years. He is to go on his first cruise Monday.

In case I have computer trouble again this weekend, I want to wish all you Mothers a very happy and Blessed Mother's Day. May you all know how blessed you are with your kids.

Becky, just stay as proud of your son as you are. They always do a better job when they know love, support and encouragement are behind them. (That does sound like my teacher talk, doesn't it). I have just joined this group, because my son in now in Lemoore (since March, actually). He is in the Black Aces and is an AO. My home computer is acting up (my poor husband gets all my frustration comments), so if I don't come back tonight, that is why. Hope to get to know you ladies soon.

I believe that is what my nephew did but didn't know it was called that!! DUH..My
sister-in-law doesn't talk much about the Navy, she thinks I'm a freak for being on N4M's. He has a top security job in the Navy. ( HE IS WAY SMART) Graduated with top recurit from boot camp. She has a hard time when I brag
about Jason and when I wear my proud mom Navy shirt. For Jason to acomplish anything in life especially anything in the Navy it is HUGE for him. He had no direction before he went in. I am a proud Navy mom and sooo proud
of my son, nephew and all the kids who ae making the sacrfice tho serve our country!!!!
How long has Mike be enlisted??
