Lowering of Flag Ceremony Every Evening At Dusk & history of the Base

It's well worth taking the time to see the Flag Lowering Ceremony!

THE BUILDING OF LEMOORE NAS

In 1954, the Navy searched the Northern California-Nevada area for land to build a master jet air station - one with congestion free air space.

Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and the nearby accommodations. Construction started in 1958. With base housing, administration facilities and the flight training areas in operation, the air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961.

Located in the San Joaquin Valley approximately 40 miles south of Fresno, CA, nearly 5,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees work onboard, with an average payroll of $120 million per year.

NAS Lemoore's primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of this mission is the operations area. Designed to support more than twenty fleet squadrons, it serves as a master training center for carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the United States Pacific Fleet.

so that is great news. We will just have to keep pushing our stubborn boys to go the DR :)I am keeping everyone in my prayers!! One more day before my
sailor is off to Lemoore, I am kinda sad tonite. 14 days went REALLY quick.

How do they diagnosis that???

My son was shopping on line with the NEX web site and came across something that said tell us where you were stationed and how did you like it.
Most people said they didn't like Lemoore cuz they were always sick from the bad air. It is a great area to raise kids but if your single it is really boring nothing
to do. I was just worried cuz my son hasn't be healthy since BC can't seem
to shake whatever he has.
Comment by becky m on March 23, 2009 at 8:09pm
I have been doing some reading and many people who have been stationed
at Lemoore say that after a year they come down with allergies or asthma.
Is the air quality really that bad there???
Comment by becky m on March 23, 2009 at 4:38pm
I am too and he hasn't even left yet!! LOL I have a feeling tht both of my kids will be in California for good, they both hate the Chicago winters!! :)
