fishingmom - THANK YOU for the video! May I share it with the current PIR groups?
Jansu: Emailed you the screen name of a friend on here whose son is in Japan (has been for 1.5 yrs). Thinking that you may want to contact her and get some support from her. She is a great lady!
PIR was such a great experience - the weekend made all the worry for the past few weeks worth it. We were in DIV 030. My son stayed in GL so he had to leave us after graduation to move over to that base. We got him from about 4 - 10 pm on Friday. Saturday and Sunday he was on liberty from 5 am - 10 pm. He stays in GL for 4 weeks, comes home for 3 weeks and then leaves for Japan after that. I met a mom at our hotel that didn't even know about the N4M website - she was shocked at how much information we had vs. how little she had. I am so thankful I had this forum. Thanks so much to the veteran moms for all your help, support, hand-holding and wonderful information!!!
This is for those of you who asked for pictures...As you can tell I'm not a great at it but I wanted to share what I did capture anyway....
CatCat: There is a group called: Great Lakes A School Q&A
Just go to groups tab and plug it in...and join!
Congrats to all who had sailors complete PIR this last friday. It was a fantastic display of well disciplined young men and woman and what a sight it was!!! My son shipped out on Saturday at 2pm. They did have to board the 1am bus to the airport and just hang out in the USO till flight time. We were able to meet him at the airport and spent the whole morning/afternoon with him until he loaded the plane. Prior to this - just after PIR on Friday he came with us and we took a cab to Libertyville, had a wonderful lunch, wandered around town a little then headed back to the motel for some rest and relaxation. Pool time. Then he had to be back to the barracks (gate) by 7pm ....and on to the ship by 8pm. He didn't want to be late - so several of them met in the lobby and took a taxi (SARGE) back to the gate. DEFINATELY would recommend SARGE and his helpers......they were AWESOME!!!! On to A school in SAN ANTONIO..... HM Thanks ladies for all your advice, encouragement and support over the last three months it really made a difference !!!
P.S. Was anybody on here at The Ramada Meet & Greet? I had hoped to meet some of you but the only other DIV 031 folks I didn't know.
We're PIR Alumni now-how cool is that? It was wonderful, exciting, awesome-can't think of enough words to describe it! Our sailor thought he had all weekend with us until 2 weeks before when he found out he was what I think is called "grad & go." We had Friday after PIR until he had to be back on base @ 8:30 PM. Then we got up @ 2AM to leave by 4AM to see him off to Connecticut. He called Saturday nite & was having a hard time adjusting. He was going on an hour of sleep for almost 2 days, I think. After having your time scheduled for you 24/7 for 10 weeks & then going out by yourself was just too overwhelming. He was much better on Sunday! As someone else said, being able to talk & text makes all the difference in the world! We are so proud! We stayed at The Navy Lodge & it was great! The whole weekend was terrific except for saying good-bye again.
