OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

jlmjtat:  Hoping that he starts getting some good sleep soon...

Good morning, everyone!

Comment by jlmjtat(ship 12 div 032) on December 8, 2011 at 10:08pm

I too got a letter today.  He sounds really tired and says he doesn't sleep well.  I have been sending all of the football scores on Sundays & Mondays, and I got a big thank you from some of his friends. He said they really appreciate it.  He said they would be doing marlinspike and weapons training.  I am just cant wait to see him.

Training week #4 (about 5-6 weeks after arriving at bootcamp) is when they start sounding so much more positive.  They have accomplished alot by then and have "the end" in sight!  So just know things will get better...in the meantime, YOU ALL are their cheer team so constantly bombard them with encouragement...remind them of how many hugs await them after PIR!  :-)

Letter Day ......... whoop whoop !!! So glad to finally hear from my son again. It was a VERY short letter and basically saying how much he misses everyone and apologizing for getting their phone calls cut SHORT.....then apologizing for now getting their letter writing session cut SHORT .....hmmmmm .....I hope you are right that things should start turning around soon !!!! He just thanked us for writing so much and asked that we keep it up ....."anything" helps !!!! So prayers and thoughts for ALL of them tonight !!!! I feel for them because I know how hard it is on us and it MUST be harder on them !!!! :(:(:(

Allie:  My son also sounded somewhat homesick during his last letter.  So much for them to go through and NO time to adjust. Maybe send a letter with just a hint of the cologne you wear?  I'm sure he misses you terribly and needs you to be the strong one, if only for a short time. Don't you just LOVE having this site for venting, sharing, asking for help?  I know I do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey allie. I got a letter like this a couple weeks ago. My husband and I have had a really hard year and he was feeling very weak when he wrote me. It broke my heart to read that he was so down. He writes every night and the very next letter he said he was just overwhelmed at that moment. They are in a completely foreign environment without any real emotional support aside from our letters. I mean, no hugs, no one to talk to like they'd talk to us. I know we tend to thinknof them as our big strong men but sometimes it weighs heavily on them. Im sure he is feeling much better now, they are getting to the point where everything starts moving much faster and before we know it we'll have sailors!

Thank you for trying to lift my spirits - normally I'm the one trying to do that, but I guess even I need some help every once in awhile! Thank you so much! I'm sure he's doing much better by now, also. It's just so hard to hear the strongest man I know sound so weak. I knew I needed to lift my spirits before I wrote him for the night, so glad I knew exactly where to go! Everyone here is so awesome! :) And, I'm not a lipstick kinda lady, but I may consider doing that for him! Thanks for the idea, dianne! <3

allie:  So sorry...but remember....their emotions are up and down in bootcamp so by the time you received his letter, I bet things were better!  He is still in the very hard part of bootcamp...but getting closer to when they have a turnaround and things become more positive.  Write him lots and keep everything positive and humorous!  They love getting mail that put a smile on their faces...so jokes, scanned pictures, etc...anything to keep his spirits up. Maybe even a nice "lipstick print" kiss on your next letter to him would brighten his day!

Awe allie, I hope he gets the chance to make up the call and you get to talk to him very soon. It sounds like he needs that call :-)

It's kind of hard for me to be positive right now. Just got a letter from my boyfriend and he is NOT happy. He missed the phone calls last week because there weren't enough phones and people weren't sharing. I understand that they all wanted to talk and that's what happens when there's not enough phones... It just makes me upset that he was so upset about it. :(

But, he ended his final with "the good news is that there's only 4 Sundays left!", which made me smile. Even when he's mad at the world, he still found something to be excited about!
