Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Information

This is for each of us who are anxiously anticipating that special day on 1/6/12 when all the effort, support and worry is coupled with our recruits hard work and dedication and will come to fruition. Each tear shed and moment spent on sleepless nights will not go away during the next eight weeks, but to know we have a support system where we all share the same goal, will help lift our spirits as we continue through this exciting journey together!!! Let the countdown begin!!!:)

If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". Comment by diannep on December 5, 2011 at 5:41pm: baylorbear: Most of the sailors will leave the day after PIR...they are bussed to the airport in the wee hours of the morning to wait for flights. As Sarge said, you can meet them there...at the USO (at Ohare) and before security at Midway (USO is past security there). Then get a gate pass and wait with them at the gate. It is extra specail time with your new sailors.

There is alot around Springhill Suites....a big Walmart Center, restaurants, etc Courtyard Inn is there too, but a little older hotel (both of Marriotts though). So for those without a car, there are some things to do within walking distance.

We stayed at Residence down the street (has larger 2 bedroom 2 bath, full kitchen suites for those who would rather have that than adjoining rooms...but each room has just one queen in it--there is a sleeper sofa in the living room though). There is nothing around it though if you don't have a car. It is about 1/2 mile away from the Springhill. We had a car so didn't matter. They have a free full hot buffet breakfast too....and PIR shuttle.

Betsy...praying for hubby! Mine will be traveling the next two days also so we can keep each others hubby's in prayers...my son too!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on December 5, 2011 at 3:25pm: Well...I was vascillating on which video to use today...I am fighting a "humbug" mood as followed up my stomach thing with a small cold. Sons Horse has a bad case of hives (it is seasonal with her...fall/winter...last year she was REAL bad...scary) so giving her dex shots...and to top it off one of our dogs had to have exploratory surgery AGAIN for eating something he couldn't pass! He survived but I am not sure we will 'cuz y'all KNOW how much that costs$!. So, I was going to do "The Grinch" but I think I will wait on that for just plain 'ol fun and play something from my dear hubby's favorite movie, "Scrooge"(If you have not seen the Albert Finney musical version, try too! It is the best Christmas Carol one)...because,

GUESS WHAT? We have a Seabee! Hubby is flying out to see him graduate. He didn't get to go to PIR as he was in Iraq...and we can only afford one of us to go, so I thought it best for him to go. They have not seen each other in a year! It's been six months for me and his bros since PIR. (Again, sooooo thankful for those extra days of liberty!) I am so proud and thankful...so here it is because NOTHING can really steal our Joy!

Comment by chelsealoo on December 5, 2011 at 2:27pm: I called Sarge too. So nice and helpful! He suggests Spring Hill bc they have a continental breakfast and are more centrally located, easier to walk to restaurants, etc. Definetly reccomend calling jim if you're not renting a car!

Any particular reason Sarge suggested changing from the Navy Lodge? I was thinking of making our reservation there cause it's cheap & we need 2 adjoining rooms. I realize most other motels have that too but I just thought it sounded good.

He is flying into New Mexico today for work and my kids who live there, just told me that they have about 6 inches of snow on the ground right now. I'm praying for a safe flight and arrival. It's crazy, because at home in Maryland, our forecast is for 59 degrees today

Comment by baylorbear on December 5, 2011 at 1:41pm: Good morning ladies, I took the advice and called Sarge-847-212-0246. He was so helpful. I went ahead a reserved him to pick us up at the airport. He has so much information. I had made reservation at the Navy Lodge he recommended the Spring Hill Suites. He said everything is centrally located and within walking distance or he can have his driver pick you up. He said you have to be careful because the cab fares will sock it to you. He said at each PIR he usually has 5 families he takes care of. So, if interested I would go ahead and call. If he picks you up from the airport its $50 no matter how many in your party and that fee includes taking you to graduation. He did say since my daughter is going to pensacola, she would get to spend time with us after graduation then have to return to base and would leave for airport at 1:30am sat morning. He said we could meet her up there. (WOW-I was shocked...I didn't know it would be that soon) My heart feels really heavy today. I have been praying alot. Guess its just getting closer to the holidays. He assigned one of his drivers to our family and said that he will take care of us. We didn't want to rent a car due to the possibility of snow and location, location, location. Lol We want a stress free trip. Hope this helps. Everyone have a great day.
