Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Information

This is for each of us who are anxiously anticipating that special day on 1/6/12 when all the effort, support and worry is coupled with our recruits hard work and dedication and will come to fruition. Each tear shed and moment spent on sleepless nights will not go away during the next eight weeks, but to know we have a support system where we all share the same goal, will help lift our spirits as we continue through this exciting journey together!!! Let the countdown begin!!!:)

OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 30, 2011 at 9:50pm: Yes...they are. None are "guaranteed"...but we do say that usually they at least get the standard three. I'm here, I'm still alive (3-4 weeks in), and I'm a Sailor (after Battlestations).
Sometimes a division will he calling and a few won't get to call because they are on watch or doing something else.

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on November 30, 2011 at 9:29pm: I used to put the phone on my sink, while I was in the shower, because there was no way I was going to miss anymore calls after missing one. I actually missed it because I was replying to a text message from my daughter when he tried to call. I only texted one word and missed it, can you believe it? My son tried to call when I texted the word "yes" in reply to my daughter asking if I wanted to go to a movie that day. My phone didn't ring because of that and after I put the phone down, I saw that I had a missed call. I was so devastated that I swore that I would take the phone everywhere with me. I even stopped texting people while he was in BC after that.

Comment by diannep on November 30, 2011 at 8:54pm: Don't forget to take the phones into the bathroom with you...and to the mailbox! You won't believe how many have missed calls due to leaving their phones just for these "activities!"

Glad to hear other mom's are getting their calls. At least we get letters! I don't leave my phone anywhere and if I do I panic, it's crazy!

Comment by diannep on November 30, 2011 at 6:33pm: Being S. Floridians, we were worried about driving in lots of snow. Thankfully, crews in the Chicago/area do a great job maintaining their roads. Just in case, I made sure to rent an SUV with snow tires! Our PIR weekend was sandwiched in between two weekends of rough cold weather. We were blessed....it was warm...in the 20's! Yep, that is warm by Chicago standards for Jan/Feb! We just had snow flurries. No problem driving....here's hoping for decent weather for your PIR weekend!
