OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Ah! Letters today! :)) he's writing every night during sleep/ironing time. Making friends but says a lot of the guys are loud and disrespectful. Hmmm. Still says they haven't been told about Adopt A Sailor. I wonder when they'll get that information. Hoping for letters for everyone and maybe calls tomorrow? :))

Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving holiday.  It will be a strange day not having Thanksgiving with my son for the first time ever.  Gonna try to make the best of it.  Hope everyone has a great day...HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!

Thanks, ladies.  Lala, enjoy all of your sailors!  Fun!  Betsy, I hope you and the hubby have a nice quiet Thanksgiving together and that your son's leave for Christmas is approved soon!

diannep, I'm so excited for you.  Have a safe flight and give your boy  from us.

Lala, enjoy your sailors too.  Lucky you, with two in the house.

As for me, I'm hoping to hear today if my sailor's leave was approved for Christmas.   He wasn't able to get home for Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone has a great day. I bet this site will be a little quiet. I know I will be cooking most of the day. Making Pecan Pralines, fudge, and Pumpkin Pie that is as soon as I finish up some ribbon orders and get them in the mail :-D

FYI, if you go to the post office to mail your letters to your Sailor you may want to check their holiday hours. Our local post office closes at 2pm today.

Have a great day Navy Family!!!

Dianne I am so glad you get to see your Sailor tomorrow. I know it has been way too long since you have seen him. I get to see my Sailors too. They will be home late this evening. It has been almost 2 months since they were home for their wedding ceremony and that seems like forever lol. They are bringing a couple extra Sailors home with them who live too far away to go home so we are excited to have them all here. Next week will be my Sailors 22nd birthday so I am glad I will have her home close to that day so we can celebrate it before she heads back to VA.

Thanks Kimberly, I make the ribbons for all the families on this site who would like them to wear to PIR and many even order them for family who can't go so they can wear them that day as well wherever they are :-) The tote bags and Kindle/E-Reader bags I can make in any kind of fabric you want. It doesn't have to be navy themed. The bottom pic is a Kindle bag made to look like a Navy Dress Blue Uniform shirt. My very own design :-) You can see lots of pics on my facebook page just type Unique Memory Makers in the search bar on facebook. If you would like more info or want to place an order just send me a friend request on this site or send me an email to uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com Thanks :-D

mome3jord:  Yes, they get sick.  I think it is a combination of being swamped with vaccinations when they arrive...too many at one time that compromise their immune system temporarily...and.... with so many recruits there, lots of germs!  They have hand sanitizer everywhere, but still...lots of bodies mean lots of germs.  Drop in immunity + germs = sick!  But they recover.  Some even get pneumonia but make it through.  Hoping he feels better soon!

Also, on the haircuts.  They can judge the "newness" of an SR by the shortness of their hair!  The newbies are bald!  My son wanted his cut every two weeks.  At PIR, it looked better a little longer (looks better to me).  He said he tried to get it cut before PIR, but they didn't want to do it.  Probably because he was a graduate and he would look like a newbie!  I get to see him tomorrow (haven't seen him since he was here last Christmas).  He told me he is now wearing it a bit longer...not quite so shaved!

Praying daily for the SRs.  Not an easy time for them, but lots being learned and lives being changed!
