OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Diannep....yes I agree the easy part will change....lol!  He is finishing up his third week of being there but his second week of official training.  He said they had five days of processing and paperwork and then training started on the 7th day.  Can't wait for the next letter!!!:)

Chris'Mom:  Although their pay is deducted for uniforms, they are eventually given a uniform allowance.  $2700 sounds a bit high...but you will see that there is alot deducted from their first paycheck for supplies, etc....I never saw my son's pay so can't give you figures.  I know that many question why their first paycheck was so little...that is why.  They will receive their first paycheck about 3-4 weeks after arriving, usually.  It will include backpay.  They are all paid as E-1s no matter their rank while in bootcamp.  Those who are E-2 or E-3 will get backpay after bootcamp to make it up.

As far as the number of recruits in his division, they will lose some of those (either discharged or asmoed - seback - to rejoin another PIR group in the future).  They will also gain some recruits back from those who were asmoed from earlier PIR groups.  Usually divisions PIR with between 65-75 recruits, give or take some.  The average division starts with about 88 SRs.

My sailor also liked the food.  Did you all know they cannot talk when eating?  Not one word!

mome2jord:  The EASY part will change...and fast!  They are probably either still in processing days or just starting training.  The physical/emotional part of it can be quite challenging in the early weeks, but gets better by about training week #4, which would be about 5-6 weeks after the arrived.  So glad that he is happy! Just get ready for the up and down emotional rollercoaster for a while, and know that if you get a letter where he sounds discouraged, no worries...by the time you get it, he could be on top of the world.  That is the way of Navy bootcamp!

Good morning all!

FTLW......I thought about this after reading all the posts.....I will have to confirm
Comment by mome2jord on November 18, 2011 at 12:09am

Oh, the other thing our son said is that there are 90 in his division and he said it was too many people.  I am curious if that is a normal division size or if it is on the larger side.  He did say the food was good and they have something new everyday and they can have as much as they want to eat.  I know that makes him happy!:)

StevenLDMOM - have you received your form letter or info from the recruiter confirming this? Most on this division arrived by the 7th. Boot camp is running about 9 to 10 weeks for those in PIR 01/06 and 01/13 because of the holiday schedule, rather than the 8-9 weeks.

Got two letters from Chris today!! Yay! He sounds good, although he miisses his mama..:) one thing that surpised me. He said they spend about 2700.00 on their uniforms. Does anyone know if that's accurate? He also said that he has tons of respect for the drill sargents due to how hard they work with little time off. He dislikes them but respects them. :)
