While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

This is for each of us who are anxiously anticipating that special day on 1/6/12 when all the effort, support and worry is coupled with our recruits hard work and dedication and will come to fruition. Each tear shed and moment spent on sleepless nights will not go away during the next eight weeks, but to know we have a support system where we all share the same goal, will help lift our spirits as we continue through this exciting journey together!!! Let the countdown begin!!!:)

OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Remember that's for Thansgiving Adopt-a-Sailor...it could be different for Christmas. But we can hope, can't we?!

They have not posted a full statement on Christmas Adopt-a-Sailor yet. Let's hope the standards are the same!

QUESTION - RTC I just got a letter from my SR he said he was told I live too far away for the adopt a sailor for Thanksgiving, but I was planning on getting a hotel room close to the base, I live around 4.5 hours away, but I wasn't going to bring him home with me. Just visit for the day in Waukegan and have him back that night. Is this not possible? Thank you!

U.S. Navy Recruit Training CommandYes, you can come visit but we're thinking perhaps some divisions misunderstood and believe one must actually live within 50 miles of the base and that is not true. It matters not where one lives, just as long as they don't bring their recruit more than 50 miles from the base that day.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 15, 2011 at 12:51pm: I think there was a post on RTC FB that there was a misunderstanding about the fifty mile radius. RTC confirmed that they just have to stay within that, NOT that the host had to live in it. I will find it!

They booked rooms at a hotel and made a Thanksgiving dinner for them. So that was allowed last year for Thanksgiving. Their SR's were also allowed to bring a couple of friends along.
