OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Navy Lodge?  Yes, you will need to drive or take a cab.  We were told that they don't have the PIR shuttle (cabs) but someone else said that they will call a PIR shuttle for you if you like.  Probably best to ask when you check in...unless you want to call them now.  The Lodge is very close, but a pretty long walk--so you would need to drive in something.

Hoping that the calls start for some of you in about 2.5 hours.  That is usually when they start.  Please ask if all in their division passed and post on here for others to see.  HOOYAH!

chelsea:  I wore nice black jeans.  There are many in jeans there.  Whatever makes you comfortable (especially in your choice of shoes) since there is some walking involved that day, and climbing up in the bleachers.  And COLD weather...so all factors need to be considered!

I'm having a brain fart. If we're staying at The Navy Hotel, do we want to drive to PIR or take a shuttle? I know the answer is already here somewhere but I'm too lazy to look. Thanks!

Thanks Popeye! Ah, I just didn't want to feel/look out of place :)

Can't wait to get our calls - woo hoo!  On a plane tomorrow winging my way there - looking forward to the end of this first part of my SR's journey!

chelsealoo-Our party are wearing some jeans & some dress pants. I had my daughter fix me up with an outfit cause she's good at that. I am wearing jeans cause I am just not comfortable in my dress pants. (I call 'em funeral pants.) As far as I know, whatever you're comfortable in is OK. Gonna start laying out my stuff to pack soon. I'm going over all the paperwork like directions to stuff even tho we have a GPS and making sure I have our hotel reservations. I can't believe it is almost here-HOOYAH!

Helpful Info:
If you are planning to drive to the base: don't line up in the far right lane the morning of PIR. That lane ends, so stay to the left of it and it will save you lots of wait time. If time allows check your route the day before PIR.
When you get into the PIR Hall take some practice shots with your digital camera. Change your settings until you get the best pictures possible with the lighting and environment you are in. Your pictures will come out much better and you will be glad you took the time to do it.
If you go to Gurnee Mills Mall keep track of the amount of time you have. That mall is huge and there are no pass through stores or hall ways to work as short cuts. It is Z shaped so if you start at one end you have to go back to where you started the same way you came. And, you don’t want to get your Sailor back to the base late.
If your Sailor tells you the day of PIR that they will be on a chartered flight you won’t get to meet them at the airport. They go straight from the base to the Jet and don’t come inside. This doesn’t happen very often but it did happen to us and we didn’t really say goodbye on Friday night because we thought we would have several hours with her at the airport. Had we known we wouldn’t see her at the airport our goodbye wood have been different and we wouldn’t have been at the airport searching for her.

And, I believe Dianne may have already mentioned this but when you get in the PIR hall you will have extra time. Take advantage of that and take some practice shots with your camera and change the settings until you get the best results with the lighting and environment you are in. Your pictures will come out much better and you will be glad you took the time to get them right :-)

Have a GREAT time and please travel safely!!!
