OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

KYKathryn:  No, he should have still sent out a form letter with info you needed.  Could anyone else have received it?  They can only send one.  If not, hopefully it will still arrive.  He will know the password since he wrote it in there, so write to him and ask him for it.  You need it for the gate pass, which you can print out 11 days before PIR.

Uh oh... neither myself nor his mom got the Form Letter ....  how can I find out the password and his intended guests?  He wasn't expecting anyone to come... is that why we never got one?

fyi, I am taking care of my son's finances while he is gone and I saw yesterday that his first check has posted to his account. It is small, or smaller then I thought, but I believe that their expenses come out right away. Again just an fyi in case any of you are in charge of this stuff as well.

I like the label idea, I will have to do that.

@Craig, my son also used your NavyDep site, and he said that it was a great motivational tool. I think he also met someone on his flight into GL that he had chatted with on there. I would have to double check that though.

Happy New Year All!

They are given a bunch of stuff when they get their like toiletries, clothes, paper envelopes etc but they pay for everything or it comes out of their pay. They are also given a NEX card that is like a debit card and they use it to buy any supplies they need when they run out. They can use it for stamps paper, etc but they don't always get a chance to go to the NEX and when they do get to go to make calls they don't want to use up their time buying what they need. But they should have enough to last them unless they write a lot. I sent paper to my daughter and envelopes, stamps and a phone card. i even printed labels with her address and our address and sent those to make it easier and give her more time for writing. She sent a letter back and ask for the labels for her friends as well lol.

FINALLY,,,, a letter... he is doing well, staying busy and making new friends.. He said they cant get newpaper clippings so dont send any, they took the ones I sent, it was only a blurb about a friend and his scores in wrestling but they wont let them have any. Who knew? Not me.He says the rdc's are hilarious. Hope all of you in his division /ship get your letters.   Happy New Years all.

Hi all, I had been spending way more time on the other page, but headed back here for some love and support. Today's laughter is really needed for many reasons...1) It is still single number temps. 2) No letter from my son and 3) if I wait for the post office to put out all the mail I end up ditching on a friend and doing inventory at her store which is a hundred mile drive.  Can I just go back to bed until PIR?  Diannep, I'll be down after PIR!!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on December 31, 2012 at 11:03am

Sound like a party at Diannep's place, I will rent a van and pick up everyone in my path from NC to Southern FL lol :)

"Yee who are COLD" ----come on down!  We always can make room!  Now, I have no heat in my house (since we don't need heat often, I opted for a better a/c compressor because we use that pretty much yearround!).  So....if you bring some of that cold with ya....well, just bundle up!  We don't ever stay cold long...we dropped into the 50's two nights ago and are already going to be hitting the 80's again.  I don't mind the temp....but the humidity is the pits...makes my back patio "sweat" and my hair frizz!  :-)

Good Morning and Happy New Years Eve!
