~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Diannep..is the OPSEC rule that the name cannot be shown with the DIV info? Or no last names at all? I'm asking because most people on FB have user names which include last names...hopper nobody is inadvertently breaking this rule

I haven't received a letter from him yet, but I did get a phone call!  He needed more information for his clearance.  I missed the first call (I have had the phone practically pinned on...can't believe I missed it!) so he left a message....sounded kind of down.  When he called back in the evening, he sounded better.  It was great to hear his voice!!

I'm so sad seeing that you all got letters.  My son left 12/13 and I haven't gotten anything yet.  I'm happy you are all hearing from your boys but I am so jealous I want one.

KYKathryn Ship2Div913, I agree about calling the recruiter.  They have all his up to date info. on their computers.  I asked about my son's address 5 days after MEPs and it was the same as the form letter.  Thank goodness for that because I sent his address to a bunch of family who sent letters.

Comment by K's Mom! on December 29, 2012 at 9:27pm

KyKathryn - My son's form letter and actual letters he has sent all have 7105 as the last 4 digits and they are in the same div - ship 02 div 913 :)

Comment by diannep on December 29, 2012 at 9:19pm

Remember, ladies, that the form letter address is the one you will need to use to mail letters once you receive it.  Check it with the recruiter's address....sometimes they are different (no worries, the other letters will "find" your SR).  Or sometimes a SR may have been moved after the recruiter got the address.  So whatever address your SR wrote in the form letter is the correct one.

Comment by diannep on December 29, 2012 at 9:17pm

kathy:  No problem with those last 4 digits being incorrect.  The letters will get there!

Comment by diannep on December 29, 2012 at 9:16pm

missy:  Holidays do not count.  And since Obama declared Christmas Eve a holiday also, then they were on "hold" for those two days.  So if your SR was on 1-4 on the 21st, then this past Wed (26th) the count would be 1-5 when they started training again.  In that case, 2-2 would have been the count yesterday.   Monday will be 2-3, "hold" on Tues (New Years Day), and 2-4 on Wed.  It gets confusing, right?  UGH!  :-)

If anyone left off the ship name when addressing their letters, no problem.  That is optional.  The ship # and Div # are the most important parts.

Also, when my son was at bootcamp a few years back, he would send home letters with different last 4 numbers in the zip on the return address sometimes..  I never understood that.... sigh....

Comment by kathybship02div913 on December 29, 2012 at 8:51pm

I"M sorry - his letter does have the 3156 zip- the form letter had the 7105- i didn't even notice. I hope that won't delay my letter!

Comment by KYKathryn Ship2Div913 on December 29, 2012 at 7:28pm

Thank you, Ellen!  I made a comment about it in my letter to him so hopefully he will clarify for me.
