Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by mochi1 on December 27, 2012 at 8:00pm: Kanesmom, I'm very sorry for the loss of your dad and your son's grandfather. It sounds like your father was an excellent role model to your son. Becoming an eagle scout is a huge accomplishment and requires much support. It is nice to know the recruits are taking care of their own. This has most likely brought the whole division closer. Take care and know that you have support here.

Wow....I'm so sorry for your loss, and so thankful for your dad's Navy buddies that wanted you to contact your SR with this sad news....since they were so very close. And the emergency leave being granted....wow. Because they usually only allow that for parents/siblings who pass away. So wonderful that the Lord knew the need here and "did His thing" to make sure your son was there. Hugs from family are something he greatly needs lots of right now. May the Lord embrace you all during this difficult time....

It's very comforting to know his division was so helpful to him at such a time. This is our first encounter with having a family member in the Navy, and it makes me feel better that my son will be able to count on his Navy family if and when anything happens.
