Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

On seeing your son's brand of body soap at Target....once he is in A School, you can send care packages! Might be fun to include some of his usual essentials amongst goodies! That way, you still get the "joy" of buying these things for him...

Prayers that those of you stuck in airports headed to Chicago will be on your way soon....

I'm heartbroken we have to wait until march 1st for him to graduate. He had pneumonia and I wish he could of had a second chance or something. Good luck to you all! And dress warm! I'm so happy for all of you and your sailor :) warm hugs and hellos!

Thanks to the veteran moms (and Craig!) who gave us insight into what to expect. Thanks to the other newbies for allowing me to know I am not crazy when I start crying in Target because I saw my son's brand of body soap and almost grabbed a bottle before realizing he isn't home. Can't wait to meet some of you! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! You all made the past 8 weeks bearable!!

Comment by diannep on February 7, 2013 at 9:15am: Good Morning Ladies! Careful driving up there today...a little messy! But hope all make it to the MeetandGreets tonight...and....be early tomorrow for PIR! 14 divisions are in this group and that is a LARGE group...lots of traffic, crowded in the PIR Hall. Gates open at 6:30. For those driving, be in the car lines EARLY (by 6). Shuttle riders won't have a problem since they bypass the car lines---but leave on the earliest ones for best choice in seating in your section. Sarge has some "shortcuts" for you all so try and make his MeetandGreet!

And, Congrats to the new sailors of 806/099/100 who should be finishing up BattleStations right now! Some of you may not get a call today from your sailor...don't panic...they may have had watch or PIR practice. Just know you will see them at PIR. Be checking their FB accounts too as some may get computer time, but not phone time right away.
