Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Lola: Didn't mean to offend. Just wanted all to not have a false sense of security on any social media site. Interesting what sailsetter posted about that. There was a N4Moms veteran who worked on here with me for a long time...she hasn't been on in a while, but she was wonderful. Her son and my son started in the same PIR group...then mine was held back a week.

She had no pictures on her N4Moms page, but I found a picture of her with her new sailor son in a strange place on the internet! Just by accident! I was quite shocked and wondered where it could have come from? You just never know with cyberspace.

I know other mom's were though. I agree, if they wanted to get into the SR's facbook or parent's fb they already would have.

Louielou, ask the car rental people if they have car seats available. You can take the car seats on the plane, they will usually gate check them if you are worried about putting them in the cargo hold. When my oldest son was small we just put his car seat in his airplane seat and he sat in that. (We did have to buy the airplane seat in advance unfortunatly.) If they are under 2 they can be on your lap.

LadyHawk, I know it isn't far from the base. I believe right next to Spring Hill Suites. Maybe someone else has the exact address.



Recruits may not travel more than 50 miles from base during liberty, meaning no further than downtown Chicago.

So the city is fine! :-)
