For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

LadyHawk: Send lots of letters! He will not get in trouble...but others may be jealous because he will be so excited! :-)

The ship # / div # with street address are all that is necessary. You can add the ship name, Recruit Training Command too, but not necessary.

On meeting the sailors at the airport. Remember, they will not have cells yet so you can't reach them. However, they can reach you through borrowed cells, etc at the airport. Some families will be waiting for the busses to arrive at the airports in the wee hours, but many will meet up with them later. Your sailors will have their actual flight info by PIR Day so you should know how long they will be waiting and can determine what time you want to arrive there by that. If at OHare, just have your sailor meet you in the USO. If he/she will be in another part of the airport for any reason, hopefully they can call you and let you know. The people in the USO are very helpful and will make sure that all sailors find their families!

The USO at Midway is past security...so you can arrange to meet your sailor in front of security to obtain your gate pass and then pass through security.

Comment by MTRanchMom on January 8, 2013 at 3:02pm: Kathy, you have to meet him at the airline checkin kiosk. The airline rep will give you the pass. You have the same security restrictions as anyone who is flying out. Then you can goto the gate with him.

My SR will be going to A School in Port Huenema, CA (construction mechanic). Do we have to be at the airport when he arrives in order to wait with him for his flight? Or can we get a gate pass at anytime?
