While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

SR Last Name, First Name, MI

So far, I've received 5 letters from my SR. He said that they get to mail out letters once a week. It's a bit lagging on their side. You might be receiving a few letters in one mail. I've noticed that it takes my SR's letter 3-5 days to get to me (California). He told me that it took 3 days to receive my letters. Hope this helps. If he doesn't receive your mail or if any mail went missing, all the letters will be sent back to his home address after PIR.

Comment by Arwen on January 7, 2013 at 10:16pm: Things get messy around the holidays. My son (and his division) was in processing for two full weeks during the holidays, and did his PIR on day 7-2. Then his division, his brother division, and the divisions before and after him were required to return to training for three days after PIR to complete his training. He got his orders to Pensacola the Wednesday after PIR. Some of the new sailors were still there till Thursday.

I've heard they don't do that anymore, they just ship them off without the stuff that comes at the end. None of it is vital safety stuff. Most at last bit of training is about uniform care, how to pack a seabag so that everything fits (there is actually set rules about it!) and other tidbits that are oddly important for sailors later on.

I think I may have a better idea as to why he told me he was tired of sitting around and was more than ready for things to start moving.....must be all the holiday time off and the hold days. Something tells me he might be wishing for some of that down time now....Haha Thanks for all the help especially FTLW and Diannep!

Walking into the school made me think of Sandy Hook Elementary. Something like that makes you look at everything differently than you ever have before :(

If they have hold days then they adjust their schedules...they get it all done :-)

So we are seeing it for at least two divisions and most likely for the Whole TG. Don't know if they will do it for all of the TG's at RTC (as far as New Years Eve) :-).

Change is part of the package of military life :-)
