For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good idea about Sarge! Message him about that!

DNmom: Navy Lodge isn't that far from Sarge's MeetandGreet and he/his group will pick you up from many hotels....you can text him if you want to see if Navy Lodge is one of them 847 212 0246

The hotels closest to his MeetandGreet are Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, and Residence Inn. All are very nice hotels....and have PIR shuttle service. NavLodge does not, but has a great rate....and many enjoy staying there. These other hotels are about 4-5 miles from RTC (10 minutes). Navy Lodge is about 1.5 miles or less from RTC. They give you a pass to shop at one of the smaller NEXs without your sailor. So it is up to you which one you would like to try!

Comment by Craig on January 5, 2013 at 3:49pm: I tell you, what Sarge should do is have a "electronic shopping trip" for those in "A" school in Great Lake and in Phase 2 or 3. Have them meet at some place in the morning on Sat or Sun, then bring them back before curfew in the evening. Pay like $10 per head. Let these sailors choose the stores that they want to buy. This will get them off base to chill out and maybe to meet some gals/guys.

Right now, they're held hostage and their only option is the NEX.

diannep - I know in about two days you're going to write "I can't believe this, my power jack on my laptop broke".... You best knock on wood....~ha

We were thinking of staying at The Navy Lodge since it is so close to the training center but I'm not sure how far from the Sarge's Meet and Greet that will be. Does anyone have suggestions of somewhere to stay..reasonable prices but clean.

Comment by diannep on January 5, 2013 at 2:14pm: Too funny, MTRanchMom! That would have been something I would have probably tried to do had I not researched beforehand.

I think you taking his laptop to PIR is a great idea. You may find some deals in GL after PIR if he wants to buy another there (I bet Sarge will have info on that for you). Than you can return home with the old one and have an extra computer in the house! Always a nice thing. Wish you could "trade in" like a car and get something off the new one....would be nice, right? :-)
