While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

One thing I noticed is this:

"Recruits must remain in uniform at all times in public."

Has been changed too:

"Recruits must remain in uniform at all times."

So, it is looking like no civilian clothes are allowed at all.

It is ironic that you bring this up and I was looking at it. The Guide has gone from 6 pages to three...bare bones basics. THERE IS NOTHING DRASTIC SO FAR IN THE CHANGES THAT I HAVE SEEN...JUST SIMPLE THINGS LIKE THE ABOVE.

They got rid of the term Grad n Go several months back and went to Friday and Saturday Departures...now THAT is gone too. There is NO title and they just talk about Departing Recruit Training Command after PAss-in-Review and explain the diferences.

I will be updating my posts later today and I will also be printing up copies of the old and new to compare the changes in info. I will do the posts and links first...the link to the old Family Guide does not work.

Comment by Mary123 (ship 03 div. 090) on January 28, 2012 at 10:29am: Finally got my travel plans worked out! I chose a hotel suite with a living room and kitchen about 12 mi. from base. It seemed like a good place to hang out with my son.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on January 28, 2012 at 12:13am: maybe I used the wrong word when I said the mail is held. From what we have been told by recent recruits is they don't receive mail until they are out of P-days and then a mail person in the division is trained to handle mail so it takes about 2 weeks or a little longer for the mail to catch up with them.

I agree with FTLW and Diannep, I would not send snacks at all not even the last week of training. Someone in my daughters DIV received cookies a week before PIR and the whole group did push-ups because of it. My daughter said they would have gladly done IT for the cookies lol but they still didn't get to eat them. Maybe they used to let them have snacks toward the end of training but I don't think they do any more at all. But you know how often things in the military change so maybe I'm wrong :-)
